I'd say winning 65% of your regular season games and making the playoffs each year, constantly exceeding expectations given the circumstances and grooming several quality players over five seasons makes it okay to be called a "sure thing."

If Rick Carlisle got fired tomorrow, would he be considered rotten goods all of a sudden? Would you be opposed to hiring him because he's "recycled"? I just don't see the problem with that.

I hate to keep beating this horse, but just because he made the decision last Tuesday doesn't mean he didn't have KF doing the research in advance. KF could well have been asked to make recommendations on Sam in addition to, and relative to any other top candidates.

Yep, and I liked that 538 story. Best coach of all time in exceeding expectations as per 82 game average. And we don't have any whiny bitches on this team like Derrick Rose. Hoping if he's the choice, he plays a healthy rotation of 8 or 9 and doesn't burn out KAT, Wiggy and Zach with heavy minutes, but instead uses the Pop method.

It looks like it was March 25 when Glen assured Milt he was going to be running he team through the draft and FA so of Glen had hired KF even at that point to look for a coach something changed at some point after that no doubt with Glen looking for someone to run the team. I do have a hard time believing that KF has only been on the job since a few hours one way or another of the last game of the year and Sam being let go. How long before that they had been on the job we may never know. Maybe it was 2 days or 2 weeks or a month or 2. I'd guess it was a shorter amount of time but it's all speculative.

I know Thibs has a great regular season winning percentage, but his playoff record is not good. 23-28 or .451 percent. Should this be a concern?

I don't know the answer but what is his record with and without rose in the playoffs

Actually, monster, the fact that Glen only committed to the draft and FA suggests he planned to do a search all along. And he also knew that regardless of how the search turns out, he needs Milt here during both the draft and FA because of the work Milt has already put in, and to help the transition for the new POBO.

By Monday, Taylor had met with TV analyst Jeff Van Gundy, too.

Layden was the New York Knicks' head of basketball operations from 1999 to 2003, when Thibodeau was an assistant coach under Jeff Van Gundy there. An NBA team's front-office executive the past two decades, Stefanski was a general manager with both New Jersey and Philadelphia.

Anybody have any thoughts on Layden or Stefanski?

I could see that but the search for sure changed from that point to where we are now. Based on what we are hearing now Milt isn't getting these next 2 key part of the offseason to be evaluated...he might not even be around depending on who is hired and when and how much they want Milt around (maybe at least for the draft) and how willing he will be to help out the franchise even temporarily while likely being severely demoted.

No. Thibs' playoff record is remarkable when you consider that Derrick Rose was only available in two out of five post-season runs, or just five out of nine total playoff series. Keep in mind this is a player who was MVP of the league and eventually accounted for $20M annual salary. That's entering a lot series without your best player. He exceeded expectations.
