Would be another typical Glen move.

Not terrible on an interim basis. I see him as a place-holder, not as a long-term selection. How about Kevin McHale? I'm serious. He can coach. But would he want to come back here and coach?

That's not a bad suggestion. He would be good with KAT and I think his approach would work well with Wig too.

McHale has personality and the ability to relate to players -- characteristics that are critical to being successful as a head coach in today's NBA. I agree that McHale would be great for KAT.

You must be a glutton for punishment.

Bringing back the country club is EXACTLY what Glen would love to do.

Just heard Doogie's podcast with Bobby Marks and David Thorpe.

Thorpe pretty much broke down why it is absolutely pointless to keep following this team. Unbelievable.

You know things are bad when bringing back the country club would be a positive. :)

8. Fire Thibs one last time, just because he's annoying as hell and a terrible basketball coach.

Lol. Love this post, SP!! But I'm just wondering. Do you think Thibs should be fired? :)

He doesn't follow the league as closely as most of us here but he did predict Rubio would be traded and Butler would not stay. Lol he said Thibs would be the coach. So I said I wasn't sure Thibs was gonna be here when the season started. He said "Why would you fire your coach?" Oh man I literally doubled over in laughter for 3-4 straight minutes. Oh man I needed that.

Thanks, Monster. Two great laughs tonight -- one from SP's post and another from yours. Nothing like a little levity to get through this nightmare.

Classic! I haven't enjoyed a post more since the days that Momma was a regular working her magic during games.

Someone on reddit claiming to have a source says that thibs will be resigning.

Makes some sense. Taylor told the media if teams can't work out a deal with layden, then contact him personally. Not thibs, not thibs and layden; just layden.

Interim coach has to already be on staff.

Saunders?
Pinckney?
Greer?
Roth?

Technically, we could fire him twice because he has two jobs.

Seriously though, this is a sh*tshow at the worst possible time.

Training camp starts in two days.

Our best players are at odds.

One has demanded a trade and the offers will be disappointing.

Our owner and GM/coach are publicly at odds.

Firing Thibs is logical, but somebody has to trade Butler ASAP and coach this team starting Monday.
There are no easy solutions here in the short term, though obviously, Thibs and Taylor and probably everybody in power in this franchise have to go. Other than Towns, honestly, fire or trade everybody and start from scratch. Thibs especially needs to go. Butler needs to go ASAP. Wiggins and Dieng and their contracts need to go next.

For the long term, here's what needs to happen.

1) Install a competent front office team that understands the need to build a team that fits the NBA of the future and to build a professional organizational culture (think Spurs), which this team has severely lacked.
2) Hire a great college coach like Jay Wright and make him a long-term commitment for stability. Wright is professional, unflappable, forward-thinking, and accomplished. Best-case scenario is that we'd have the next Brad Stevens.
3) Find new, stable ownership that will keep the team in Minnesota and operate the franchise in a professional way, in part by keeping their mouths closed and staying in the background.

This is gonna start getting scary if Thibs resigns.....

Think about this guys life:
Unmarried guy, committed his whole life to basketball and coaching. He eats sleeps and breathes basketball......Now he's been betrayed by his protege player he lifted up from no name status and turned to a super star.

Thibs idolizes Jimmy and now he has been betrayed by him.......betrayed in the worst of ways.

I'm not sure Thibs is going to mentally recover from this betrayal anytime soon. If he resigns I see a hard road to depression recovery. Hopefully he's got some support groups around him....

oh yeah, Jimmy will never be the same again either. He'll be average at best in about 2-3 years. I hope him and Kyrie team up in LAC and get playoff bounced by KAT and Wiggins in the next couple years. That would be fun to watch.
