OKC fans spinning it as addition by subtraction so Cason and AJay can shine, but if either shine and they get max contract offers next summer OKC is in trouble. Crazy that the former number one pick only cost Ryan Nembhard for Dallas to get.
I think the OkC fans are correct...Cason and AJay should be more effective than Dort, who is coming off a relatively poor season. His shooting efficiency dropped dramatically, and you could sometimes hear groans from the Thunder fans when he would launch a shot. I think his defense slipped a little last season also. But of course the main reason OkC did the deal was to reduce the tax bill by $80 million. Saving that much money, freeing up minutes for Cason and Ajay, and getting a few picks sounds like a home run to me.
Possibly, Dort did have a bad shooting year this year. I think Wallace is a better thief defender for steals, but isn't nearly as physical/strong as Dort. Strictly speaking Ant, I've seen Dort give him issues, but have seen Ant have no issues taking Wallace one on one.

It seems like Atlanta keeps adding more and more guards to their roster. They took on Devin Carter and Sac had to pay a 2nd to move on from him. I'm impressed they were able to get some value for Zaccharie Risacher who might still have promise but is kinda expensive if you want to keep him around. This is the 2nd OKC wing they have acquired this off-season they got Wiggins earlier.

Meanwhile OKC has now acquired 7 2nd round picks for guys 3 guys they used a combined one 2nd round pick for when they added them to their roster. They got some value for those players. Will it pay off? Idk but it's a nice piece of work to get something for those guys. The Wolves have been able to get some picks for guys they weren't willing to pay for via sign and trades. Ideally the Wolves will have some players on contracts that are reasonable enough someone will give them minor assets for that the Wolves can't afford to keep.

Will Atlanta move someone for a big?

It's always funny to me when they say it like that. If he's 2 inches taller than he was last year, he's no doubt been growing throughout the season. I doubt they check height all the time lol

I have grown 5 inches in 3 months of summer and another summer 3 inches. And then during the other 9 months grew no more than one inch. It is not uncommon.

Agreed Lip
I think they made a pretty big deal out of him attending a home game In the Denver series?

Edit:last home game, fan appreciation night.
Just some final clarification on the KG v Edwards thing. I’m not going to argue that KG was not the best player in Wolves history. He is certainly the most accomplished player to play for our team through a long completed career that included a championship in Boston and induction into the basketball hall of fame. But there is merit to the view that Edwards is the better of the two. Edwards has certainly had more team success than KG with the Wolves, including 3 playoff series wins and 2 Conference Finals appearances in his six years compared to KG’s 1 series win and 1 trip to the Conference Finals in his 14 years. Of course KG wasn’t exactly surrounded by a ton of talent when he was here thanks to a bad front office. And ultimately, KG ended up with 3 conference finals appearances and 1 championship after going to Boston. Of course, it took him 14 years to do that while Edwards has played only six seasons so far, but the bottom line is that Edwards has yet to make the finals much less win a championship. Individually, the two are very close. KG has much better rebounding stats but Edwards has better regular season and post-season scoring stats. Ultimately, there is no question that KG is the more accomplished of the two and he is certainly at least arguably “the best” of the two as well.

But when I think of the best player ever in a Wolves uniform, I think about who I would draft between the two if I had a choice knowing what we all now know about both of them. That’s a close call for me.

In my ideal imaginary world we’d have both of them playing together in their prime. I wonder how many championships we would have one with those two guys together? That would have been fun. But if I had a choice between the two I’d take Edwards because of all the things he can do on the court at an elite level. That’s how I ended up referring to Edwards as the best player ever in a Wolves uniform. But if you caught me on a day before seeing the clip of KG saying LeBron should go to Cleveland (or any day before seeing KG talking on any podcast and making me cringe) I might still say KG is the best ever. :). Again, it’s very close in my view although others might disagree.

I’m just glad we’ve been lucky enough to have both players in a Wolves uniform. And I’m also glad we’ve had two competent front office regimes in the Anthony Edwards era - Rosas and Connelly. I can’t help but think about how different things would have been for KG here if the McHale/Saunders front office had kept Chauncey Billups instead of Terrell Brandon, drafted Josh Howard instead of Ebi, and/or not stupidly put the illegal Joe Smith deal in writing. KG took the Wolves out of the abyss and we should thank McHale and Flip for bringing him here. Those were great years and I’ll never forget being at the Target Center when KG stood on the table pumping his fist after we eliminated Sacramento. Great memories thanks to KG.

Unfortunately, KG hasn’t been impressive as a former player to say the least. I probably shouldn’t let that affect my judgment of his career as a player. :)

Gobert KG and Jaden and a good defending SG? Good Lord that would be an amazing defensive lineup. Young KG could guard SFs. That group might have some questions about how they would score with the lack of guards that could create but it would be a fun problem to have. One of those bigs would get moved for a good guard.

It's all hypothetical that can't be proven one way or another. Simply swapping 22 year old KG for 22 year old Ant in 23-24 doesn't get you to the finals, and you might lose to Denver in the semis. 23 year old KG isn't putting you over OKC last year either Putting a healthy 24 year old Ant instead of a 22 year old Ant on that 23-24 roster and we easily beat Dallas that year, with an Ant that is now clutch and can shoot threes. Maybe a 24 or 25 year old KG could get you there as well. 22 year old Ant wasn't ready to take on that level of success. 23 year old KG won one playoff game that year and shot 38.5% from the field in the series loss to Portland. Hell TSJ closed out Denver this year when Ant, Donte, and Ayo all went down to injuries. Your telling me for 7 straight first round exits, KG couldn't once get lucky and win a series? You have to fail to win in the NBA, and simply swapping out one 22 year old for another isn't gong to get it done. Even 22 year old Wemby who may one day be the GOAT if he can stay healthy, ran out of gas and his experience ran its course when he went up against a team entirely in their championship prime window. There is a reason most of the best players to play the game of basketball win their first title around the age of 27.
