I believe there is an element of luck and great front offices basically unearth talent with the best odds of reaching their full potential. We've got a number of irons in the fire that could pop and be significant contributors, not just Edwards.
Fuck the timeline/window.
By Rosas' moves... trading for DLO on a max deal and giving up next year's #1... he's shorting just how much the current group can improve.
This is basically the team. At least for this season. And probably next season.
Yet, we're asked to be patient because we're just not good enough.
But maybe... just maybe... the next promise of hope guy (edwards) will actually earn his max contract. We just have to sit through a couple/few more 50-loss seasons to find out.
If Rosas doesn't think this team can compete as structured... either draft/trade for guy(s) who can help now... or don't build around Russell and Towns.
Doing both simultaneously does nothing. I know Rosas doesn't give a shit because he's the one making tons of money... and wants to keep making tons of money... but that doesn't mean we have to keep buying this crap each time a new regime shovels it to us.
Think about the Stockholm Syndrome we have as fans. 1/2 the people on this forum think that the biggest failure of the past decade is sacrificing unproven prospects to MAKE THE PLAYOFFS under Thibodeau.
Abe, when you say "we're asked to be patient", who are you referring to that is doing the asking?
My view is he made a solid move bringing in Rubio - truly a "win now" signing, but otherwise failed on the PF front despite trying to get a "win now" guy in Milsap or Tucker. He also failed in the draft not getting a "win now" guy (or guys), but I do think attempts were made.
While in the end Rosas should be held accountable, I do believe he at least
tried to get some better pieces here and just wasn't successful at doing so. It's on him for not being successful.
Rosas is asking us to do that.
He asked us to do that when he said a 32 - 37 team needed a complete tear down/rebuild. He asked us to do that last season when the Wolves were not clearly interested in winning... and both of us have cited examples of this. And like with other Wolves regimes, the team lost games intentionally to gain a better chance at landing a difference maker.
Only for the Wolves to draft that guy and then ask the fans to be patient. Rosas said he's "not praying for the #1 pick to be a franchise piece." Ok. I agree. But if that's not the case... and yet that #1 pick still won't help the Wolves win games in the short-term... it sure seems like a wasted opportunity. Rosas is citing the playoffs as a goal three years down the line... on a team with two max contract guys. That's a ludicrous statement the moment it's said for fans of 29 other teams.

Here is what makes me cringe. A great poster, someone I have a lot of respect for is hoping that we can make the play-in tournament.
I don't disagree at all. That is certainly what we are hoping for. But how pathetic is it at this point of our maturation? We've traded Wiggins and a slew of other players. We won the #1 draft pick and fired that bullet. We've dealt our #1 pick for next year leaving us with virtually no way to get better unless we blow things up again. I hope you guys are as pissed as I am where we find ourselves heading into 2021. I, and several posters on this board would have us in far better shape had we been given the reigns when Rosas was hired. I'm just looking for hope at this point and not finding much.
Don't forget that we also traded our 2021 2nd round pick as well in the DLO deal. Just makes your point even stronger. I watched the Memphis game again today. One of the things that bothered me was watching Desmond Bane. It was a reminder of how much I liked him coming out of college and how well he would have fit on this team. But instead we have Bolmaro, who is playing in Europe and may never be an NBA-caliber player. The fact that this franchise is in the pretty sorry state it's in now because of a long string of poor player personnel/draft decisions.
Do you like Bane more than you like Nowell?
No. But I like him better than Bolmaro. I get that we have a glut of SGs on this team. That's another problem. The more I watch DLO, the more I see him as a SG, which makes him part of the glut. I would have done a number of things differently in the draft this year. But alas, it is what it is.
We are in a roster crunch now where would you be getting the roster spot for another rookie? Do you see any hope for Bolmoro? I heard that his coach in Barcelona sees him as a PG in their system so he will be developed as a pg. If he can defend at his size and actually play PG that would be pretty valuable even if he couldn't shoot which we will see on that one.

The draft and free agency would have gone a lot differently if I had been making the decisions. Bolmaro' s shooting numbers have been horrendous, not just bad. He has short arms and isn't close to being NBA ready. Whether his current coach thinks of him as a PG or not doesn't mean much to me. I think the pick was wasted on him. And honestly, I'm not fixated on Bane. I simply would have preferred using the Bolmaro pick on a higher caliber prospect who could come and potentially help right away. I don't think Bolmaro will ever help the Wolves. I actually think he'll be packaged in a trade down the road. And he won't add much value to the deal in my view.

Well, Anthony Edwards is the best quote on the Timberwolves...
"Man, it's hard to guard screens in the NBA. Them dudes big. Them dudes setting them screens, they be big. Once I watch enough film on that, it'll become easy for me because I'm pretty big also."

Anthony Edwards:
"It's hard not playing for 10 months... We just got together last week. Last Monday, I think. We started last Monday! So, I mean, if I was able to play 5 on 5 at a really high level like I did in college, then kudos to me. But I don't think it'll come that easy"

Anthony Edwards says it isn't his job to take "crazy shots" when he's on the floor with Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell, because "that's their job".
But Edwards said, "When Rubio is on the floor, you can get loose a little because they're looking for you to score."

Ha, love the quotes, kekgeek! We don't know yet what kind of basketball player Edwards is going to become and whether he will ever justify being the #1 pick, but it seems like he isn't the kind of guy who is going to fall back on tired NBA cliches. It seems like he is going to be entertaining both on and off the court.

Hard not to like the kid, regardless of how we view him as a player. Pretty much puts up zero facade and speaks honestly in simple terms. Good stuff.

I agree with this. The honesty and openness is also good for his brand, but that's also reliant on him becoming a good enough player for that to matter. Very likable kid, no doubt.

Love it!!! I hope he proves a lot of people including me wrong.
He might be my second favorite person on the team already.
