Remember when the Wolves brought in Mike James after one good season (at age 30) to be THE guy next to Garnett and Mark Blount? Or, Marko Jaric shortly before him?

Good times. Good times...

That was the beginning of the dark times of the Wolves PG talent where Luke Ridnour was more talented than anyone we had for literally years. Before that time it wasn't the lack of PG talent it was injuries picking the wrong guys among players that could play guys unhappy etc. Also that the 1 good season mike james had was...under Sam Mitchell.

Remember not too long ago when they talked about how deep the PG position is in the NBA? This thread really has me thinking that this may be a fallacy. Most PGs are combo guards in the classic sense now. The 3 "true" points as I see them, Conley, Paul, and Lowry, are aging out of the league. Steph is an anomaly. No one wants to touch wall's contact, ditto Russ. Is that it? I feel like the type of point guard we need on this team (John Stockton/Steve Nash mold) doesn't exist and likely wont ever again. I mean I'd love Kemba or Lillard matched up with Towns, but we'd be playing a different style all together. The best young PG may be Doncic. It's just weird.

Part of it is the way the game is played. Do you really need a PG to set up plays to have guys jack up a bunch of 3's...you want that guy being one of the guys jacking up the 3's. That's too simple of a way to look at it but it's part of it. The other part is that I do think the talent of PGs still isdeep the problem is that there is so little differentiating the guy that's 3rd PG to the stud guy in the G-league. The depth isn't good depth but better than wing or PF depth.

Some of the young PGs haven't planned out like they were supppsed to. Like Abe said Fox is the only guy from last year's supposed loaded PG draft to look like a really good player. Fultz looks to be in real danger of being an all time bust. Ball is a legit player but More of a Rubio type flawed player with more physical gifts. Dennis Smith Jr a guy I was high on hasn't been too great.

The draft before that Dunn hasn't stayed healthy and...mixed bag at best. Both Murray's are nice players on a different spectrum. That Ben Simmons guy is flawed and wasn't expected to be a PG but is pretty good. Remember Mike Conley didn't exactly figure things out for a couple years and he is a very good player. It might take some time and a couple of these guys will break through. Fox was the PG I liked the most out of the top guys in last year's draft.

Yes I overlooked Fox. I like him a lot. He's really making an impact. He must be untouchable for them now.

Penciling in Derrick Rose or Tyus Jones to be the starting point guard would be a terrible mistake. Neither guy is capable or reliable enough to handle that role for an 82-game season.

The one guy I do have my eye on is Goran Dragic. I have long thought he would be a good fit in Minnesota and despite a sluggish start to the 2018-19 campaign, I'd still go after him should he opt-out of his last year in Miami. I'd offer him two-years, $28M in hopes of coercing him here, assuming Teague also opted out of his final season in search of a longer term contract.

You may be right. Teague can just be so frustrating with his inconsistency. If Rose could stay healthy I really don't think he would be any worse. But like I said, it's a gamble.

I don't know, just looking back at Abe's list....Teague may actually not be the worst option if we get a coach that can actually design an offensive system that doesn't rely so much on guards controlling everything. We don't have to go all Denver/Jokic or anything (he is averaging an incredible 7.5 assists per game in 30 minutes!), but we should absolutely use KAT and Saric more as facilitators. Okogie, Wiggins, and Covington are all tailor made to move without the ball, cut, and space out for 3's.
