Yuck - I am not a fan of Ding, but Randle just does nothing for me besides rebound.
Randle's five years younger, in just his second year and already a better (not more efficient) scorer and rebounder than Dieng. Defense isn't either of their strengths, but Randle doesn't get pushed around inside. He'd give us a nice long-term option at power forward, and he fits in with what we already have.
PS: How are you a fan of Terrence Jones, but don't like Julius Randle?
I get that Randle is a better rebounder, but Dieng is clearly a better scorer right now. Randle's volume of shots is a little higher and he plays more minutes, but Dieng's efficiency is much better. Dieng beats Randle in every statistical shooting percentage by a wide mile this year. Dieng has a FG% of 52% vs. Randle's 41%. Dieng shoots 3s at 50% vs. Randle's 28.6%. Dieng FT% is 83.9 vs. Randle's 70%.

I know Randle's not more efficient than Dieng right now. Randle's practically a rookie this year and just turned 21 years old. He does have a larger array of moves, talent and aggressiveness than Dieng even right now. That statement was more eye-test than anything, though Randle's REB% is higher than Dieng's.

Id like randle if we could keep Dieng as our primary backup PF/C. I'd also want to keep our 1st.
If we can package anything with shabazz for him then go for it.
If Sam ever got us into an up tempo offense we would have a deadly lineup of Ricky, LaVine, Wiggins, Randle, and Towns. 3 plus defenders should allow the team defense to be at least average as well.
OK, what does 5 potential "suitors" mean? 5 teams that have called to inquire? 5 teams that have something they want? 5 teams that they have identified as being run by dullards who have to wear a bib to keep from drooling on their neckties?
Has anybody thought that maybe Buss's moronic son is so scared that he is going to be fired by his slightly-less-moronic sister that he is willing to trade all the young players for above-average vets to make a playoff run to keep his job? All the people who are saying the Lakers won't trade Russell for another young player is right.
I guarantee you this is what happened: They called and said "Russell/Hibbert/'16 2nd for Pek/BlondeRicky/'16 1st" hoping Taylor would wet himself over the idea of shaving $18m off next years payroll, and even Newton was bright enough to say no way.
One last telling thing to me is that there is no mention of this on Hoopshype. And Hoopshype once linked to some fan's twitter account that said MIN was going to waive Bazz as soon as the deal with Tayshun was finalized like it was actual news.
I like Jones, but wouldn't trade Dieng for him either. I just don't like Randle now or when he was drafted. It is telling that he is already replaced by rookie Nance as starting PF. Russell is the guy Iw oudl want on that team.
Randle very well could start at the 4 for us long-term. I would absolutely trade a guaranteed backup big for a potential starter who's significantly younger. Randle provides exactly what the starting 5 is missing. Scoring and rebounding. The inefficiency is a result of this basically being his rookie year and most rookies are inefficient and get better over time. I think Randle is very much like Zach Randolph in his play style and with Towns being a stretch 5 I think those two can work together just fine. He would allow us to not run just two competent scorers on our starting unit.

I know we don't agree much on this board, but you nailed this. We're on the same page here.
