Probably.
Then again, it would be a Public Relations shitstorm for either side if Love didn't resign.
1. See, Kevin Love only cares about stats. All that talk about winning was BS.
2. Cleveland traded away the #1 pick for one year from Love? What???
I think there's a vast difference between Love resigning for this season... and seeing him finish out that contract (or even half of it) in Cleveland.

You can't down play pride on this. LeBron wanted him and got him. He had to sell him to come back or face the reality that he made a mistake going after him. It is not all of it, but it is a part of the equation.

or maybe it had to do with the fact that they went 34-11 with their big 3 all playing at the same time.

Love always said he was resigning in Cleveland. The Cavs GM said they were always going to resign him. Just the gossip shitstorm was the only reason why people thought he was going to walk. Love has always said he wanted to win. Best place for that was the Cavs. Others said that Love only cares about the stats and going to a big market and being the man like the Lakers. Those people were wrong. Is the last grasp of that gossip shitstorm is to proclaim they only did it for PR reasons? Really?

I think Abe hit several key factors on the re-signing. Plus, let's be honest - this is a great shot for Love to pick up a ring. How many guys wouldn't want to do that even if you have to play a lesser role?
But back to last year, it would have been interesting to see if the Cavs could have won the title with just LeBron and Kyrie. I think Kyrie only played one game of the finals? If he stayed healthy, it's possible they could have run the table with just those two guys and not Love. And again - I'm not saying Love is a bad player or wouldn't have contributed if he played. I'm just saying Love went from being "the man" to being a guy who had to learn to fit in behind LeBron and Kyrie. It appeared to be a difficult and awkward transition. Or at least that's the way it was portrayed via the media. I agree if they call all stay healthy and accept roles - they should be close to unstoppable. But egos are a crazy thing....just sayin'.
I my eyes, this trade was a one year deal. The wolves set themselves up for the future by sacrificing one year of having Love, so it was a no brainer win for us. The Cavs sacrificed Wiggins on his rookie deal to get Love for the season. They didn't win the title, so I think they lost out in the deal. They could have maintained cap space to sign Love this season, and would have been a very attractive destination.

no...they could not of. They are over the cap even without Love. Lebron and Irving both make the max

I don't think I'm playing the gossip queen here. I think it's been obvious Love would resign all along. That's where my post was coming from. It makes sense for both sides... especially since the alternative puts both camps in a tough spot.
Will it work out? I dunno. But it was really the most realistic option. Almost any player (and contract) can be traded in today's NBA. If it doesn't work out, Love can move on to the next team without nearly the shitstorm he and the Cavs would have felt after one aborted season.

Yes they could have!
They had very few salary obligations on the books during FA last season. Even Lebron had signed a deal allowing him to opt out and re-sign. They had Irving on his max deal, and Varajao, but not much else moving forward. The fact that they signed several other players after having Love in the fold isn't a factor in what they could have done this season.

no.... if they didn't make the trade they would of still had Bennett and Wiggins cap on the books which combined, pretty much equals what Love was making. With Irving's extension kicked in, they did not have the 20 million dollars in cap space it would of took to sign Love to a max deal
