Brown can barely crack an NBA roster. I think the difference is bigger than you think. We didn't need quantity, we needed quality. We have enough young pieces to take chances on. I'm surprised how many people are basically saying Tyus isn't going to make it because of his size and athleticism. At some point people have to realize the kid can flat out play basketball because he's been destroying people bigger than himself going back to 8th grade. 2 inches and 20 pounds isn't going to be the difference between him making it in the league or not.

I actually liked the move. We could have sold one of those 2nd rounders. Or, taken fliers on players who might or might not fit on a fairly set roster. Or, moved them for a crapshoot of another 2nd round pick in later years.

But I'm all for the Wolves leveraging multiple picks like they did to get a guy they scouted and targeted as a guy who think highly of. We can wonder about whether Jones is going to pan out over the long haul. But the move from 3 second round picks to a guy they dig earlier in the draft works just fine for me. It's not like they did the trade to move up and just choose whoever was available there... Jones was targeted for a reason.

It seemed like Houston had serious interest and may have taken him but they valued Decker higher. If Houston likes a guy that's a fairly good sign they have done a pretty good job drafting and developing guys. Good teams do trade up sometimes with good results. I am generally with Q I like more chances but if you like someone you move up if the price is reasonable which I think it was. Q doesn't value Jones very highly so that makes him less a fan of the trade which is fair enough.

I'm not just concerned about his athleticism/physical profile; he didn't really do anything THAT great in terms of production/efficiency either. Average-ish stats combined with a limited physical profile is not a good combination to me. I do agree that the guy has poise and it's tough to argue with his success leading up to this point. But the NBA is a whole different animal.

A solid backup PG would be a success in my opinion. And that may very well happen with Jones. My issue isn't entirely with Tyus himself. My larger issue is two-fold: 1) His fit with our current "core" of players. I think we need a more defensive-oriented backup. 2) Trading away three 2nd rounders, including two high ones, for him. My bet is that the team would ultimately derive more value from one or more of those 2nd rounders than the #24 pick.

Now if Tyus turns out to be a top tier backup or potentially a good starter, I tip my cap to Flip and return to being an amateur fanboy (oh wait, I already am!).

Cool - I just think people have very high expectations of Jones for a #24 and 6th PG drafted.

We gave up some worthless second rounders for him. Even if its ends up being just a good story so be it. What you should be upset with is dealing a first for Payne. That was the real joke.

But the kids 19 and flip has watchedbhim since he was in diapers. (ok maybe exaggerated a bit) but flip is plugged in and i am sure has seen him develop for a long time and has a relationship already established with him. I would believe flip knows what hes getting here.
