Good players are what get you to the playoffs more so than good coaches. A player of Cousins' caliber should always be a higher priority to keep than the coach. Karl is another coach who thinks he's the MVP of a team winning games, but teams are built on players first and then coaches. If Demarcus and Karl can't work together I think they'd be utterly stupid to pick Karl in that situation.
Who says he won't get good players in return?
The odds of getting a player better than Cousins by trading Cousins are slim. How many superstar trades have netted the team trading the superstar a better player? So far none with Wiggins being the most hopeful.
Doesn't mean they can't win the trade. But you're right... if anything, it's a long-term win over immediate results.
Except Karl isn't a long-term coach so it doesn't fit. Trading the established star for hope with a coach who is going to do everything to get the all-time wins record sooner than later doesn't match up. He's 194 wins away which is 5 seasons winning 39 per season. By the time the team is prime for any real success he's gonna peace out as the all-time winningest coach.
True. I think I read somewhere that Karl is 67?
Let's be honest. I ripped Sacramento for being inept at the beginning of this thread... and obviously that hasn't changed. I don't know what they're trying to do there.

Karl turned 64 in May. It's not super old but he ain't young either.
So the rumored deal is the second overall pick, Randle, and Clarkson for Cousins and Landry. If you were the Kings you would be falling all over yourself to pull the trigger on this. Okafor should be able to post the same numbers eventually as Cousins. Cousins isn't an elite defender either. Or you could go Russell who is a top notch prospect too. Then you add two good young prospects in Randle and Clarkson. I would do that in a heartbeat. As for the Lakers, they get a young franchise big. Having Cousins will probably help them attract Love or Aldridge making up for the loss of Randle. They want to win now. Waiting 3 years for Okafor's game to really develop probably isn't exactly what they have in mind.
I agree...that deal really favors the Kings. I hope the deal happens. I despise the Lakers, and I'd love to see what happens to Cousins there...I don't think it would be pretty.

I agree. I think the Lakers are better off with the 2nd pick then Cousin. Can you imagine a team with Love and Cousins on it? Wow that would be a horrible place to be.

I know it's the Lakers and they can build with Cap space and all that stuff but no way they give up that much in the trade it's pretty much every young asset they have plus they would be taking on salary. If I am the Kings I ask for all that though hoping to get everything I could.
I have a bit of a strange affinity for Cousins in general and I know he has issues but I also don't see him on a day to day basis and have the knowledge of what kind of stuff really goes on with him. The Kings do so well they should figure out what direction to go. The problem is that I have a hard time knowing if they have a clue of what they are doing.
Coach Cal said he isn't going anywhere but the story of the Kings contacting him to take over everythig makes a lot of sense because they have Cousins. what a mess.
Rudy Gay is supposedly trying to recruit Rajon Rondo to the Kings. The Kings need a PG. Boogie is a Kentucky alum, as is Rondo and WCS. Please let Vivek and Vlade sign you to the Kings Rondo, the whole NBA community needs to laugh at them again.
If that Lakers deal was truly on the table and the Kings squashed it, then they are morons. Kings are a mess. Only way I would go there is for the money. Team is doomed for failure.
