If I'm the Rockets I try and trade Harden to a star hungry team like Boston or LA. He is a heck of a talent, I'm just not sure he is a guy that drives a team to a title. Boston and LA both have the assets to get the deal done. I don't think Harden and Howard are a championship core.

The weird thing about Houston is they have some nice young talent even if they let Howard go (and I bet they do). It was around a year ago Harden was all great playing defense most of the year all that type of stuff. They need a coach and get rid of and let some other players go and try and get the right guys around Harden both on and off the floor. Will Harden ever be a leader? I don't think so either but he is a star player and those are damn hard to find.

Brooks could be going to Washington, JVG could be going to the Rockets? Blatt or Rambis to the Knicks?Who does that leave for the Lakers? Mike Brown?

My guess:

HOU: Jeff Van Gundy
WAS: Scott Brooks
NYK: Kurt Rambis
LAL: Byron Scott
SAC: Mark Jackson

Well, I'm 2-2 on coaching hires so far, though both were pretty obvious moves. Thibs to Minnesota, Brooks to Washington.

It probably wouldn't happen but McHale to the Lakers would be pretty amusing.

Brooks to Washington was more about the Wizzards pursuit of Durant than the coach I feel.

I do not see Van Gundy taking the Rockets job. To me that job has very little appeal.

The Wizards aren't void of talent -- also have young talent. Wall, Beal, Porter, Morris, and Oubre as well as veterans like Gortat, Sessions, Anderson. That team was very recently a top seed in the East. I think Brooks look at as an already talented team that can and has won, but also has a possible chance at luring in Durant. Makes sense.

As for Van Gundy to Houston, I don't see it as a bad destination at all. First of all, there's a limited supply on legitimate superstars in the NBA. The Rockets have one in James Harden. Is he a perfect player or a good leader? Probably not, but he is an absolute force offensively and that's attractive in itself and makes things easier for a head coach. Howard might opt out and leave. That'd be good for the franchise I think. Beverley and Motiejunas are solid. They also have a decision maker in Morey who isn't afraid to make a splash via trade or free agency. There are a lot worse head coaching jobs than this one.

I don't see Van Gundy going to Houston either. Speaking of Durant, what are the chances he would consider joining the Wolves. May seem far fetched, but who knows? If he wants to win bad enough it wouldn't be a terrible choice. With Durant the Wolves could probably contend next year. Think about it - he would make that big of a difference. If he and Monica were still an item, and if she was still playing here the chances might be pretty good.

Mark Jackson in Sacramento just seems like a fit.

I bet they think he can "connect" with Cousins.

I just don't think Van Gundy is going to go for a job that's nice, I think he is holding out for the perfect job. I see our spot as one that's near a perfect one. Van Gundy has a cush job right now.
