Wolves need to kill 2 birds with one stone to win a bunch of games and push past Detroit in the standings. Pistons schedule isn't terribly difficult here on out so this pick feels like a lock to convey this season, barring bad injury luck.
If the season ended today I think the Detroit pick would be #18. I expect the pick will ultimately be in the 15-19 range. Anywhere in that range makes it a valuable asset and it’s even more valuable when combined with the Utah pick, which will likely end up in the 32-34 range. I’d like to see those two picks combined for a higher 1st round pick.
To Bloop's point though, Detroit can may be back off just a little! I mean, we wanted them to win games, but not quite THIS many!

So much for backing off. Detroit beat Boston tonight. Are pick will likely wind up in the 20s...

I thought going into the season Detroit had a chance to be decent and we get the pick this year but they have exceeded even my expectations. Better coaching, some worthwhile vets, some good health and Cunningham taking a step forward will do wonders. They are 7 games over. 500 and this is without one of their exciting young players.

Thomas Sober having season ending foot surgery might just drop him to us even with Detroit winning too many games. Gives him time to recover, learn from Rudy and hopefully take over for Rudy when the time comes.

Detroit’s win over Boston tonight eliminates any sliver of doubt that we’ll get Detroit’s pick this year. And it’s no longer going to be the 14th or 15th pick. It’s likely going to be somewhere in the 17-21 range. In essence, it will be about the same as the Wolves own pick that’s going to Utah. So there’s an element of justice to what’s likely to happen.

Ha, an element of justice for sure! But not what most of us were expecting when Ivey went down. I think most of us were thinking the pick would probably come next year, or maybe if we were lucky, Detroit could win enough games to give us a mid teens pick. But they have really surprised, and a pick closer to 20 seems more likely now. And now I'm hearing that Ivey might even return before the end of the year. What a story the Pistons are!

Wolves have moved in front of Detroit in the league standings, which gives the Wolves a better pick than the one they send to Utah. Pistons have OKC twice and Cleveland once more. The Wolves owe them a loss as well.

Utah is currently sitting at the worst record in the NBA. If Utah stays there we would get he highly valuable 31st pick in the draft where you get the best player that doesn't require a guaranteed contract.

Derik Queen is projected to go higher but is probably for the better. He isn't showing any defensive chops against Colo St to be in consideration for the Wolves.
