Re: Offseason moves thread
With Buxton's speed in center I'm alright with Sano in the OF. It's not going to be ideal defensively but we've got to get these bats in the lineup.
If we played in the NL this might not even be discussion. They tend to be strong defensively up the middle with plus bats but average/minus defense at the four corners. The AL seems to be more defense in speed throughout the outfield with the plus bats coming at the corner infield spots and DH. It's kind of like the Cubs with Schwarber playing LF.

Based on Google he does seem really talented I bet a big part of this acquisition is they can use his Jazz piano skills since Torii and the dance party is gone. His minor league hitting numbers were decent but not the few games he had for Seattle last year. 18 K's in 32 ABs...

LST you will be sad to hear but Mike Pelfrey signs a 2 year deal with the Tigers. How does this man keep getting 2 year contracts. 16 mil

I am not surprised at all. Pelfrey is 31 and has some some seasons of success and last year he was healthy and had a really nice stretch before somewhat imploding. Teams pay for starting pitching. I figured he would get around 7 million a year and that was before teams started handing out massive payday a to aces.
Do I think Prlfrey is worth it? It depends on how you define worth. Idk it's tough those somewhat proven (both good and bad which Pelfrey Is both) are extremely tough to decide their value even if I think the guy kinda sucks which some people think about Pelfrey. Imagine if football was played 5 times a week and you had to have a rotation of QBs. How much do you pay for a backup starter that gives you a much smaller percentage of winning that an ace (starter) but maybe has a chance of looking good enough if a bunch of factors fall into place... Pitching is whacky to predict the most tricky of any position in sports IMO.

I would have liked this trade.

Geez, I guess. 2 prospects, neither of which is their top guy, for Chapman! And the Dodgers already have a great closer in Kenley Jansen, who actually had 1 fewer blown saves than Chapman last year. Maybe we need to offer the Dodgers a prospect or two for Jansen.

I didn't see what they gave up, but think it would have been a great get for our bullpen. He would have been good insurance if Perkins doesn't have it.

Just want to go on record here with the new Plouffe deal that I think Sano in right field is going to be a disaster defensively. On top of being 260-270 lbs, he's never played the position at any level and now Ryan expects him to be able to play it at the highest level. I think it's gonna be a huge liability all for the sake of keeping Plouffe who is a great defensive 3B and a decent bat, but wildly average overall.

I haven't heard Sano in right. I've heard Sano in left and Rosario in right, which he has the throwing arm to handle. Do you have a link?
That being said, I do believe Sano should be playing 1st and Saint Joseph should be playing left.

Heard it on KFAN so I don't have a link unfortunately. I think it was Meat Sauce and AJ on the weekend show so not the greatest baseball people, but that was the report they were working off.
