Offseason moves thread
We got em!!!!
@LaVelleNeal: Twins minor league signings: LHP Aaron Thompson, C Juan Centeno and........OF Joe Benson
Funny Benson is back but the Centeno signing looks like a nice depth addition at C.

Re: Offseason moves thread
Thanks for teeing up the hot stove league thread, monster. While it's nice to have former prospect Benson back in the fold, the real news here is Centeno. I was trying to remember where I had heard his name before, and after looking it up I remembered...he was the first catcher to ever throw out Billy Hamilton in the bigs! Apparently he's the real deal defensively, gunning down 56% of runners in triple A (take that, Suzuki!) with a very quick release. The guy has no power at all (3 career HRs), but has hit close to .300 in AAA most of the time and doesn't strike out much. Apparently he's considered very good at framing too. With the kind of power lineup the Twins are assembling, he could be a piece even if he only hits a weak .260. Having a guy who discourages base stealing would be huge. I like this pickup!

Yeah Centeno is a nice pickup.
Benson is interesting also. The Twins have need of CF depth and Benson has had some solid success in the minors the last few years walking a lot and striking out too but with some decent power. If he still has the plus athletic profile he used to have he could be a nice defensive option he had plenty of PF assist the last 2 years. Not sure if he has been able to stay healthy that's been his real issue. I am not expecting him to do anything next year but it wouldn't be completely crazy for him to find himself a bit and be some sort of nice outfield depth in the organization. I would say that regardless of what organization he came from.

Anyone thinking we're going to make a splash in Free Agency? The Tigers came out of the gate with Jordan Zimmerman 22 mil a year yikes.
I just have a feeling this is the year we get our Ace. It could be by trade for Shields or Fernadez or both ;) or we pick up a Free Agent pitcher. My vote would be Price because we need a Lefty badly.

I'm interested to see what Molitor and the hitting coaches can do with Benson but I'm not counting on much and will be surprised if he turns into anything because there has always been quite a bit of swing and miss in his bat for me to get too excited. Centeno intrigues me, I'd prefer the defensive catcher as long as he can hit for .265+.

If he was a backup elite defensive catcher that could even hit .250 and .313 obp I would be plenty happy with that.
The thing with Benson is he has always been an elite athlete with a big arm so if he still has that he doesn't have to do much with his bat to be somewhat useful as an outfield backup. I am not expecting anything but I'll be interested to see if he can do something.
Does anyone have any interest in Revere? There are some rumors Toronto doesn't want to pay him the 7-8 million and may let him go.

No we have a revere his name is Byron Buxton, if he wants to come back to be a 4th outfield for cheap then fine, but revere should play the role of a Jared Dyson on a winning team.

That sure brought up a ton of options for the Angels. Lol
The Twins ponied up a nice chunk of change for Park even if it ended up not really being that much with a somewhat bargain 4 year deal but it makes me think they aren't pissing around this year they are set to put forth the most talent they can get and win. That means they aren't going to give up Plouffe unless they get a terrific offer because Plouffe is a solid 3B and Sano although very talented is still not proven. Would the Twins trade Plouffe? Maybe but like I said it's gonna have to be a good return. They already added a catcher so now it's relief pitching and if they trade Plouffe they may need to add another vet position player somewhere.

Price got $31 million a year from Boston. That's crazy. We need an ace but damn we can't afford anywhere near that kind of salary for 1 guy.
