Trade deadline discussion thread
Re: Trade deadline discussion thread
If I recall, we can convert Clark to an NBA contract one day before the end of the season, and he would still be playoff eligible. Let’s see how he looks then

This seems to be the approach Connelly took as well.

Re: Trade deadline discussion thread
That team simply wouldn't be good enough to contend. Middling team... sans GIANT Edwards leap.
The value of NAW and Reid is largely because of their contracts. And yet the Wolves are barely a play-in team despite both of them + Randle + the best health in the NBA.
[Note: I'm not suggesting the Wolves should have made a trade just to make a trade... I'm just pointing out how I assess the team next year.]
Re: Trade deadline discussion thread
NAWs value to other teams doesn't end today. They can give him a new deal and move him for the right deal. Letting him walk is a zero value proposition. I don't see TC going that route.AbeVigodaLive wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 3:15 pmThat team simply wouldn't be good enough to contend. Middling team... sans GIANT Edwards leap.

Re: Trade deadline discussion thread
We will need to sort through what teams have salary space and which ones are able to use the full mid-level after all the trade deadline moves but unless something drastic has changed I'm guessing there will be teams that will be interested in a sign and trade for NAW. That's still a possible option. GS gave up a small asset to sign and trade for Kyle Anderson a few months ago. NAW will cost more but also will be more in demand. Connelly has navigated these situations pretty well during his time here so I'll have some confidence in him in that regard.Phenom wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 3:20 pmNAWs value to other teams doesn't end today. Good points. There are other viable options later.Monster wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 3:27 pmWe will need to sort through what teams have salary space and which ones are able to use the full mid-level after all the trade deadline moves but unless something drastic has changed I'm guessing there will be teams that will be interested in a sign and trade for NAW. I guess it's probably very unlikely that the Wolves are running this same team back in the fall... especially if it fails to get out of rd.1 or even get that far.
[Note: For what it's worth, Connelly can still opt out himself after this season, right?]

If NAW is at or under the MLE he can also be traded into those exceptions for teams that don't use them this summer.AbeVigodaLive wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 3:32 pmGood points. Sources: A team that made a last-ditch effort near the deadline to engage the Phoenix Suns on trading for Kevin Durant to no avail: the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Maybe they will revisit in the offseason
