Just watched a video with the talking heads saying that Thibs is sabotaging trade talks because he thinks the only way the Wolves make playoffs is by keeping Butler and if he fails to make playoffs, he is canned. This is what is so terrible with allowing Thibs to be both the GM and coach. He makes move to save his job not what's in the long term interest of the Wolves. I hope Glen cans his fat ass soon.

And all of this reporting is being leaked by Jimmy agent and other teams. They want to fleece Glenn Taylor again and have him panic and do a trade to get it over with.

Glenn has a terrible track record of making trades when he gets involved

Hard to know what Thibodeau is actually thinking or doing. But I'm not yet ready to assume Thibodeau is deliberately sabotaging Glen's desire to trade Butler. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Thibodeau is asking for too much relative to Butler's logical market value to teams around the League. Thibodeau's a rigid, linear thinker with a huge stubborn streak. And he appears to have a serious blind spot when it comes to Jimmy. So while I won't joint the chorus impugning Thibodeau's motives, I have zero confidence in his judgment.

In any event, regardless of how he's handling these Butler trade negotiations, Thibodeau should have been fired weeks ago. He should have been fired already for allowing this situation to develop in the first place, failing to proactively deal with it one way or the other months ago in spite of the obvious signs of trouble dating back at least as far as late April.

What were those bad trades that resulted from Glen Taylor's involvement?

It was reported he was involved in the Al Jefferson trade, corey brewer trade, and the KG trade way back when.

*edit not KG trade but Mike James trade

The Al Jefferson trade was all David Kahn. I had very good highly reliable sources at the time who told me Kahn concluded that Jefferson and Love were too similar and, therefore, couldn't play together. One front office person I talked to vehemently disagreed with Kahn. But I remember well that the deal was entirely Kahn's from idea to execution. I don't recall the Brewer of Mike James trades, but I suspect Glen had little to do with them.

Seriously, Glen hasn't been a particularly meddling owner. He's guilty of making bad hires who make bad personnel decisions. I wish, for example, he had intervened and refused McHale's decision to trade Billups and rely on Brandon as our starting PG. I wish Glen had intervened and refused the illegal Joe Smith deal. I wish Glen had listened to Flip and overruled McHale's decision to trade Marbury. The list goes on. Glen definitely deserves blame for bad front office hiring decisions. And he has generally let his bad hires make bad decisions.

I think I probably had better sources than Jon K or Woj way back then. :) I don't even think Jon K was around at the time. But who knows.

I trust you Lip. I was just saying what respected people like Woj and Jon K said. Zogoda said Glenn has gotten involved before also. Just going off those reports

The Al Jefferson + Kevin Love can't play together spin... despite them not really getting a chance on the court together... is just one of dozens of baffling calls made in Timberwolves history.

It might not have worked. But at least try?!?!

Remember, this is the same organization/regime that tried to limit Love from shooting three pointers... and sat him on the bench behind the likes of Darko Milicic and Ryan Hollins.

DARKO MILICIC & RYAN HOLLINS!!!!

Then, even into Love's 3rd season... he wasn't getting the minutes even as a starter. He played more than 30 minutes only once in the first 9 games... and he had 24 rebounds in that game.

Then, in his first game with more than 38 minutes... a 30/30 game. Even the Wolves couldn't prevent him from seeing the court at that point. But they really butchered his early career. They didn't know what they really had.
