Most guys I know are responsible gamblers...they stay within themselves and amplify their love of sports with some action on games. But then there are stories like Art Schlicter. I highly recommend his autobiography Busted...I still get the chills thinking about it. I read it when it came out maybe 15 years ago and thought Art had finally pulled things together. Yeah the Schlicter story is a tragic one. I remember when he was a freshman at Ohio State and their first game was on national TV. They hadn't announced who the starter was going to be, and then Art came running out for the first series to the delight of the crowd. It was the highest of highs for him. He had a decent college career but as you know his troubles came pretty quickly when he went to the NFL. I've gambled on sports for decades. It is amazing how much you don't know when you first start out. I find myself learning still on an almost day to day basis. Financial discipline is one of the hardest things to accomplish and one of the most important. Today, I consider myself a professional gambler. I only bet on sports because that is in my wheelhouse. On a given day I'll have anywhere from $1500 - $2500 in play. I am able to profit but not as much as I would like, and that goes back to the still learning thing. I occasionally share a nice win when it pertains to the Wolves, but like anyone else serious about gaming, I have suffered some incredible beats. I remember an NFL game where I had a bet covered going into the last play of the game. The team I was on was on offense, trailing, and only had time for one play and a lengthy field ahead of them. Though they were trailing they were covering and the only way I could lose was on a defensive score. Well of course they tried one of those multi-laderal plays, eventually retreating far enough where the ball ended up in their own endzone where the defense pounced on it. Any serious gambler has a myriad of stories like this. I lose a lot of NBA parlays where I have 4-7 legs on the bet, and then I'll have all but one leg covered and I'll need just one more point or rebound from a certain player. And then the game will be a blowout so they don't play the last 8 minutes. Hard to swallow a lot of times.

Cool, even better than the Schlicter book is Billy Walters' Gambler: Secrets from a Life at Risk. You won't be able to put it down. Very interesting life story and not at all tragic like Schlicter's (um...except for a stint in prison for alleged insider trading).
The Rockets just couldn't afford to lose a home game due to their lack of experience. I expect a short series. We would beat Houston, might get the big market flu against GSW.
