I think the problem is that the way Vando plays and his unique weaknesses make him best suited for a more limited role of energy big off the bench. Starting as a PF and playing that way ultimately wore him down as the year progressed. And of course teams figured out they could really shade off him defensively and he ultimately wasn't a good enough catcher or finisher to punish teams for it. Like Vando, Gobert can't shoot, but sure as hell makes for a bigger and more reliable target when teams decide to cheat off him.
I love Vando but it was the 1st time in like 6 years Vando was actually healthy, I don't know if the wolves could afford to find out if Vando could continue to stay healthy.
Also I feel like the wolves can continue to be aggressive on defense because Gobert can clean up on so many defensive mistakes.
If Vando could catch or hit corner 3s he would be so valuable but those are huge holes in his game what makes Vando probably a 10 minute a game guy in games that actually matter.
Love Vando and will miss him but the wolves massively upgraded

I'd have to go back and watch the series which I won't do but I feel like Brandon Clarke really outplayed Vanderbilt in that Memphis series. Maybe In some instances Vanderbilt could have played more to help in the boards but ai also remember some times where Clarke was doing his thing and Vanderbilt was on the floor then. To be fair even if that was the case Vanderbilt had just turned and playing in his first playoffs where he played meaningful minutes. I guess Clarke hadn't played much in the playoffs before that series either though.
Ok we have a new player several of us would like to get in Sharife Cooper. I assume that he could be claimed on waivers by the Wolves or another team. One benefit of claiming him instead of just signing him later is that we would get his bird rights. It's unlikely to matter but if he blew up having early bird rights could come in handy or if he sticks around full bird rights after the following season.
It feels like this is the type of upside guy a lot of us were wanting. There might be other guys like this let go at some point.
Uhh, the Timberwolves signed Eric Paschall to a one-year deal. I'm not sure if that's guaranteed or just a camp invite, but if it's the former that'll be interesting because someone on the current roster would have to be dropped or dealt. Naz Reid's contract is non-guaranteed this year, by the way.

Can Paschall be signed to our remaining 2-way deal?

Checking on that now. I believe he can as he's entering his fourth season -- the final year in which he can be signed to a two-way deal.
If it's a two-way, then I'd say it's not a bad signing. I still would have preferred signing Sharife Cooper, but Paschall is a pretty good get on a two-way contract. He's strong and athletic, but he only has an 8'7.5" standing reach and a wingspan slight under under 7'0. Not good length for a PF. But he can handle the ball a bit and has the makings of a good 3-point shot. If he can develop a consistent 3-point shot, he becomes a poor-man's PJ Tucker.

Obviously it's a super optimistic take but it's worth mentioning that PJ Tucker didn't make it back into the league till he was 27. He is still going strong in his late 30's and going to end up with a pretty lengthy and lucrative NBA career despite not really starting it till his late 20's. He is an exception to the rule in so many ways but he is also an example of why every roster spot matters and how just because a guy isn't 23 or younger anymore or whatever sometimes you can end up with a really impactful player from someone that was maybe just supposed to be a decent depth guy at best. I'm really mentioning this more in general than really saying Paschall is gonna become PJ Tucker although similarities are certainly there and I thought of it too. :)
