After a whirlwind of activity by the Wolves front office, the dust appears to have settled. The Wolves front office got their guy Gobert, added Forbes to mitigate the loss of Beasley, and signed Kyle Anderson to shore up the team's rotation with a versatile vet PF who can handle the ball and defend multiple positions. They brought back Taurean Prince, extended KAT and signed both of their remaining 2022 draft picks. They have Knight and now Lawson signed to their allotted two-way deals. Matteo will be headed back to Italy to continue his development in Europe without taking up a Wolves roster spot or salary. Given where things are at and what's transpired already, it seems highly improbable that the Wolves will be making any more trades this offseason. So the roster seems essentially set with the following players:
1. DLO
2. Ant
3. McDaniels
4. KAT
5. Gobert
6. JMac
7. Nowell
8. Prince
9. Anderson
10. Reid
11. Forbes
12. Rivers
13. Moore
14. Minott
The one remaining question is whether the Wolves will fill their one remaining roster spot this summer. If the answer is yes, then the next question is who they'll sign.
I suspect the Wolves will leave that final spot open to potentially fill later in the season if necessary to address a particular need that arises - i.e., to address certain key injuries. If they do choose to fill that spot now, I think it would make sense to sign Cousins. Perhaps Connelly has already decided to sign him. As Kek reported, Cousins' jersey number is now free. :) But there are issues with Cousins that keep surfacing everywhere he goes and that cause organizations that sign him to let him walk. Here's a recent article excerpt that reminds us of those behind-the-scenes issues associated with Boogie. Talking about Denver signing Boogie last season, this article states:
They signed DeMarcus Cousins, who was a productive center, but we know his reputation. Behind the scenes, I do think there was some friction, and would there be calm waters throughout an entire season? If there would be, they'd bring him back. If not, then they'd go address this hole.
I like the idea of signing Cousins to the last roster spot. Connelly brought Cousins to Denver, so i could see him bringing him here. But something apparently wasn't quite right in Denver because they didn't bring him back and instead signed D'Andre Jordan who appears to have nothing left in his tank. Cousins seems to wear out his welcome pretty quickly everywhere he goes.
Wolves Roster Final?
Re: Wolves Roster Final?
I remember when Dane Moore had a local Denver media guy that has been around the whole. On nelly era on to talk about Connelly coming here he mentioned that Connelly and Malone were a bit of an odd couple but they worked well together although basically it was how can you not work well with Connelly. Anyways he said he could see Finch and Connelly working really well together because hey are really similar he said Malone was much more ridged and Finch is much more flexible. He mentioned that Connelly brought in Hartenstein and part of why Hartenstein didn't play was He was a bit of an interesting guy and was more creative. He said he thought Finch would have been more likely to utilize Hartenstein. Anyways take that for what you wil.
Also some people have probably already seen the video of Cousins and Connelly joking back and forth. Cousins has ties to this organization. Finch was his head coach. Dells was his GM. He played a few games with both Rivers and Forbes last season. If the Wolves decide to sign Couins they will have an idea of what they are getting into.

Hassan Whiteside would be my preferred big if they decided to add another free agent, but I'd also enjoy seeing DeMarcus Cousins in Minnesota -- if for no other reason than I felt like it should have been where he was drafted over a decade ago. It would feel like justice... sorta.

That's a great point, Monster. If the Wolves sign Cousins we can rest assured that the decision will have been very well informed.
Re: Wolves Roster Final?
Thanks for listing out the full roster Lip. What I love about it is that it's still a fairly young roster, yet no one in the top 12 of the rotation has less than two years of NBA experience.

I think either of those guys would be someone the Wolves would probably be willing to sign for the 15th spot. I remember there was a seemingly well informed fan that said in response to Gobert and Towms not maybe getting along that Gobert and Whiteside had gone at each other some before they were teammates in Utah and got along really well. I think it would be really something if the Wolves were able to get either guy because I'm not sure either of them would be guaranteed to play a ton. Both guys have a bit of a reputation that comes with them which is partly why they have been signed for cheap but I think that's mostly because both of them have been signing with good teams not just going to the highest bidder.

Lip I also think Cousins while I'm sure he isn't just the happiest go lucky guy or whatever I don't think he is a bad guy. Obviously we see him on the court and he is clearly a pretty demonstrative person. Sometimes that can go wrong even if it's not intended in a bad way. I think Cousins is pretty competitive and passionate. I have always been a fan of his talent and I think he has been misunderstood but I would be more hesitant to add him to this roster but he has legit history with Finch and now Connelly and also Demps who when I went back and read some things about him and Cousins Demps said nothing but good things about Demarcus. Could Cousins fee a little salty at Demps for not bringing him back? Maybe and you be honest I wouldn't have a problem with that. Cousins is still a really talented player. Meanwhile despite not getting a bunch of money (some of that was is choice) Cousins got to play in an NBA finals with GS (one game he played VERY well) and that may not have happened otherwise. He has made made over 94 million (feels like that number should be higher but he just missed that next big salary jump) and he could keep makings few million more if he can stick somewhere even just on vet min deals. To me Cousins seems like one of those guys that if he lands the right plays with the right fit and teammates and coaches and all that stuff he could end up being really valuable to that team and not just for a year. Will that be the Wolves? Maybe. I could see it. I am a bit biased when it comes to Cousijs although I feel like Even though I was very high on him coming out of college I had a very good assessment of what he would/could become. It would be insane to have Towns Gobert Cousins and Naz Reid on the roster. Before Towns any of those guys would be the best center the Wolves have ever had or 2nd behind a couple years of peak Pek used to destroy Cousins back in the day. Lol
Re: Wolves Roster Final?
Monster - I think you're probably right about Cousins not being a bad guy. But he's had that cloud of being a bad teammate hanging over him even since he's been in the League.

I kinda forgot till now that Mike Malone and Cousins were together with the Kings and I remember that it seemed like they got along just fine in Sacramento. I think I remember Cousins was kinda pissed when they fired Malone.
The thing about Cousins is he isn't just a specialist. He isn't a block shots rebound guy. He isn't just a dude that plays some D and or jack's up some 3's to be able to space things out. Cousins has legit high level skills offensively and I don't think he sucks on D either depending on what you ask him to do on that end. Sometimes I think teams just want the guy that can just compliment instead of figuring out how to implement a guy that can do a lot. Also like I said before I don't think Cousins has chased the money I think he only wants to play for good teams. I don't know that for sure but he clearly gave up money when he signed with GS. And every team he played on since then is at least a playoff team...well except Houston but he signed up to play with Wall and then the whole Harden thing went down. There was some reports he could go play in China and there were some nice offers for him to do so. Cousins would destroy a lower level of competition.
Here is an interesting article with some quotes from cousins and Malone.
