... and it wasn't good enough? I know the Wolves need to do SOMETHING. But yikes. Whether they get Russell now or in the offseason is irrelevant anyway. That's huge haul to give up for somebody who obviously prefers not to play here.

He could have simply signed in the offseason and the team he'd be joining wouldn't be so decimated.

Scares me too. That would be a typical Wolves front office move - trading away valuable picks and players for an big uncertainty. DLO isn't that good.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Historically speaking... those picks are less "valuable" than we've been lead to believe. In that way, I'd say that the typical Wolves front office move is tanking games to get those valuable picks and then asking the fanbase to be patient with them as they nurture those valuable picks.

Only to have a new regime come in and say those previous valuable picks are worthless. But THIS time... they're going to take advantage of those valuable picks.

the reason why they're less valuable is because we have no belief that this team can pick the right guy unless it's essentially picked for you (like Towns). We've seen this team screw up in every way imaginable. Is the next step to just do nothing pray karma actually works?

If this method leads to us having to move Towns and/or Russell in a couple of years, Rosas is basically saying you're screwed under my leadership because I don't value the only thing you have left: picks.

For the record, I'm not advocating for Russell. I think I've been pretty clear on that.

I'm just ripping any new, repackaged Promise of Hope campaigns being shoved down our throats like we haven't heard the exact same mantras from a different regime before.

[Note: I hated The Process. We can keep pointing to it as the one way to build. Or, we can look at Utah and Indiana and Portland and San Antonio and Toronto and Memphis and... as a way of building teams and re-building teams without trying to lose games or insult the fanbase.]

those teams are smart and don't have the history of torture that this franchise does, so when they decide to take a step back or retool, they have something this franchise doesn't: the benefit of the doubt. Those are all markets that are patient and have been rewarded for their patience with good teams even if they don't win it all. This franchise hired a Morey understudy, a young green coach like many others are doing, and the goddamn creator of the trade machine and look like this.

Now, as someone who watched firsthand how Brooklyn dealt with their situation, they didn't have the sticks of dynamite we know as Towns and Wiggins attached, so it was easier to be immersed in player development and got at the very least, Dinwiddie and Harris out of it. That's what made it fun: guys got rewarded for playing well and weren't married to any particular system other than shooting a lot of 3's (and they looked to add shooters. This team is just waiting for God knows what)

With this team it's simply easier to stay away from them until they decide they wanna be taken seriously, and that goes for ownership on down to the franchise player who should say less right about now.

As you know... even the Nets... the NETS!... got out of that from that terrible situation their Russian oligarch owner left them in with MUCH less angst and in much less time than the Wolves have with two #1 draft guys on its roster. Or, Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio. Or Al Jefferson. Or...

They got rid of that owner though. We're stuck with Taylor. There's no shortage of problems we can encounter with Glen as the boss.

Our GM came from a place that basically never tanked and always navigated rebuilds with competence. He should be expected and able to do the same here working with two number 1 picks. He came from the perfect team to teach him how to rebuild on the fly and so far not so good at doing so here.

Mostly unrelated... but sorta trading related... and definitely sorta funny...

Anybody catch the Steph Curry vs. Ja Morant nonsense?

Summary: A modern-day social media cluster... BUT... the young Grizzlies players are basically telling Iguodala to go F himself if he doesn't want to play for them. Curry chimed in for Iguodala... so Morant went after him, too.

Yes, it's silly stuff that's beyond basketball. But does it say something about what we want from our own young stars? Personally, I think it's good that the young Grizzlies are upset a vet doesn't think they're good enough. I'd have liked to have seen the same thing here.

Because he thought building up the Wolves would be like building up the Rockets. He had no idea whatsoever what he was walking into in terms of how scarred the fanbase is and how little time he really has to figure it out before this team starts all over again, only this time without Saunders and Rosas as well.

I have not heard about this, but good for those young Memphis players. Don't look now but they are .500! Iggy is missing out on some fun in my opinion by helping a bunch of young up-and-comers find their way and be ever more successful. I think a lot of vets would embrace it. I hope Memphis holds firm and lets him just sit out for the year.

D'Angelo Russell incorrectly got labeled a ball-dominant player in Brooklyn. At Ohio State he thrived on and off-ball; those skills just weren't needed for the Nets like they are with the Warriors. From 3 DLo is 41% off screens, 36% off handoffs. DLo can thrive with Steph & Klay.
