I liked how Tyus played last night in the first half (I didn't stick around to watch the second half). He was ok on defense against Mills and you could already tell he's the best PnR handler on the team because of his ability to score and threaten from multiple spaces on the floor. He and Zach make an interesting combo off the bench. Hopefully with Tyus there, Zach gets better off the ball and makes more cuts like he did the other game for the easy slam. Last night he still seemed to be too much in the get the ball and make a play off the dribble mode when he should be focusing on catch and shoot and cuts when he's off the ball. That second unit should in theory be able to run basic primary and secondary PnR action on the strong and weak sides now with scoring threats in both actions as opposed to the low ball movement it had previously with Zach, Martin and Bazz out there.

guys i watched some minutes of Tyus at it looks to me like he is really good in avoiding screens on PnR defense, is this observation true or did i watch too little of him? .. he looks to me that he could be better than i expected, he is not complete disaster on defense and very capable of running offense with decent enough shooting stroke

I agree with your assessment that Tyus is good at avoiding screens. I would also add quick hands to his defensive assets. On the negative side, his feet have been slower than I would have thought having watched him at Duke. Opposing PG's blow by him like he is Mo Williams. I don't know if this is an area he can improve in as he learns more about NBA defense, or whether his lack of quickness will always be an issue for him on defense.

Yup, second this take. He is easily torched off the dribble. If he had some length, he could back off a bit and still contest the outside shot, but he doesn't have that luxury. Defense will always be an issue for Tyus.

yea that is problem, but he is really smart and very very young, he may find a way to play decent defense (from athletic training i know that speed is developing till about 22yo then decay very slowly, lateral quickness is not improving much tho). And even if he turns into good backup guard i am fine with that with 24th pick. I frankly expected him to be worse defensively on NBA level than he is.
