Wow - Can someone confirm this was actually in the D-League and not back at Apple Valley?

Negative take: This is just the D League, and doesn't mean Tyus is a legit NBA player. Also, without watching the you tube video that is out there, we don't know how solid his defense was (although he also had a block and a steal).

Positive take: You can't argue that those are not fabulous stats. You also can't argue that Tyus has played well everywhere he has been, and this is the first indicator that his superb college play could translate to the pro level. I think it's going to be fun to watch this guy develop

Yep. D League.

Fredette is averaging 28 / 6 in the D League right now.

[Note: Good to see Jones find some success. That's what the D League is for, right? Give the kid some confidence. Get his footing and maybe he'll be ready for time in the rotation later in the year when Martin is gone, LaVine is playing more SG and the Wolves need backup minutes at PG.]

I'm happy for the kid to get a chance to play. Bazz used the D-League his rookie year to put himself on the radar. I believe his D-League performance directly lead to him finally getting some minutes under Adelman. I hope Tyus can do the same. I have no idea if the kid will be good enough to be a back up PG in the NBA. But I'd like to have some sort of decent sample of NBA games we can use at the end of the season to help make that decision.

Anyway - I forgot to post a link to the box in my Original Post. Here it is: http://dleague.nba.com/games/20151209/texida/

I seriously want him to be our answer as our backup PG moving forward. Being a good manager, passer, and shooter is just what you need in a backup. Playing smart will help this team more then anything from the PG spot because we have the ingredients around him to let him be the cook.

I think the key for Tyus is ultimately going to be his ability to defend. He has a lot to overcome to just be passable on that side of the ball. I don't see the D-League helping him with that aspect of the game, but that's fine. He absolutely needs to get reps to build his confidence and sharpen his game offensively.

Why? Is backup PG defense a huge necessity to winning games across the league? No. This Tyus' key to success is defense narrative is crap. Nash couldn't play a lick of defense. Neither could Curry for a long time either. Lawson is not a good defender. Lillard, Parker and Irving aren't good defenders. All those guys are starters and they have sucked or still do suck on defense. You don't have to be a good defender to be a good NBA player. Tyus is not going to be a good defender. His physical profile compared to his opponents pretty much will never allow it. He can however become a guy who can be a very good PnR threat if he can get his shot down consistently which would instantly make him a good option as an NBA PG. He's never going to be an above average defender so that isn't his key to being a successful player in the league.
