Why did you do that? Some of us are trying to recover from that yet.

Forget about it?!? I will be mentioning in every other post (very Cam-ish) when Payne is getting regular minutes next year AND producing! ;-)

But the kids 19 and flip has watchedbhim since he was in diapers. (ok maybe exaggerated a bit) but flip is plugged in and i am sure has seen him develop for a long time and has a relationship already established with him. I would believe flip knows what hes getting here.

"We gave up some worthless second rounders for him" - Ahem, Nikola Pekovic resents that statement, as does Manu Ginobili, Carlos Boozer, Marc Gasol, Paul Millsap, Goran Dragic, Isiah Thomas, Lou Williams, Draymond Green, Khris Middeton, Danny Green, Chandler Parsons, Patrick Beverley.......OK, I'm out of breath (there's more).

You do realize that pick #31 is only seven removed from #24? Many would say that the first pick in the 2nd round holds more value that the late 20s picks because of the contract flexibility.

"What you should be upset with is dealing a first for Payne."
- Yup, that made me mad too, but that's sooooo last season. It's time to move on to new gripes!

"Flip has seen him develop for a long time and has a relationship already established with him."
- Aha! And herein lies the problem. Flip's Comfort Factor seems to trump cold, hard analysis and objective decision making. That's exactly what burned him on the Payne trade. His comfort with his buddy Izzo vouching for Payne perhaps overruled a more objective analysis that would have raised some red flags. Tyus has all the makings of a Flip Comfort Factor choice: Local kid, knows his family, he "wants to be here", fan-friendly pick, etc., etc. It was just too much for Flip to resist!

You know, Q, you should just be relieved that Flip didn't screw up the #1 pick and take Okafor... ;-)

Heh, yeah, I guess it's a good sign when I expend 5,000+ words over a one week time frame critiquing the 24th pick in the draft. Sheesh, I'm almost as worked up about this as I was when he released Jeff Adrien!

Did I ever tell you how much I liked Robbie Hummel? How does Flip recognize the value of Robbie and not Adrien!? Cognitive dissonance I tell you!

(seriously, Flip is a hard nut to figure out sometimes. I think the boy has been a helpful influence though).

Ok there are maybe one or two second rounders a year that pan out. Thats a good 3 to 6 percent of the picks. Chances are they are worthless. I do however really miss igor rakocevic though.

I actually see your concerns with him and i myself think he has some work to do. I think if he can add some muscle to him and mature he could surprise you. There was nobody we were going to take that were going to be anything that would have been much better.

And you cant really expect flip to value a second rounder when he throws first rounders around like candy.

I personally think a guy like Tyus is better to take as a late 1st rounder because you can lock him in for more years where a lot of 2nd rounders you only get them for 2 years and then they are a restricted FA and could get paid a lot. Maybe Tyus (let's say he hypothetically dropped) would have signed a 3 year deal as a hometown guy but I like the control of a 1st rounder for a little more money as more value since Tyus is a young guy.

Good discussion about the Tyus Jones trade...kind of Q taking on the world! Q almost had me convinced with his three darts theory...#31, #36 and a future second rounder on its face sounds better than #24. But the rebuttals moved me over to the other side. First of all, we weren't going to keep both picks this year, so its really #31, a future pick and cash we are comparing to #24. Secondly, that future second rounder is in 2019, and most of the optimists here think this club should be pretty good in 4 years...hence, that pick is likely to be somewhere in the 50s. I don't think anyone gets too worked up about losing a minimal asset like that.

All that said, there's no question the jury is still out with Tyus. I sided with Q pre-draft that what the Wolves needed was a solid defender and great distributor backing up Ricky, and it's not likely that Tyus will be a solid defender. But I like his makeup...gotta like guys who seem to play their best when the bright lights are on. So despite my concerns about Tyus' size, athleticism and defense, I'm way on board with this deal and pick.

I side with Q, but I am better at getting right to the point of things.

Russell is awesome
Towns is awesome
Tyus trade was not awesome
Payne trade is fubar
