So what is to stop Cleveland from saying "let's wait a YEAR, KEEP WIGGINS, THEN ADD LOVE outright as a free agent?
Something called the salary cap, unless Love is willing to play for well under the max.
Actually, I think the Cavs will have enough room to sign Love to a max 4-year deal next summer. So why would Love still greatly prefer a trade to Cleveland this summer? Four reasons.
First, he would obviously want the chance to win sooner rather than later.
Second, he would clearly rather not endure constant questions about whether he will stay and possible hostile crowds.
Third, he doesn't want to risk an injury that would cause the teams he wants to play for to shy away from him.
Finally, getting traded this summer would give Love the possibility of a 5 year deal worth over $20 million with the team he wants to play for -- e.g., Cleveland.
I just don't see his agent making threats that could jeopardize his client's ability to get traded to teams like Cleveland, Chicago and GS where he has a much better shot at contending and where he has previously said he'd like to end up.
Another minor reason Love would like this situation to end is this summer he has given up some fun opportunities because of the situation. (Just looking. At this from Love's perspective I'm not feeling sorry for him or anything) He likes talking to the media not because he is a big time attention whore but he is a guy that likes to have fun call in to Dan Patrick and joke around talk about basketball and speak his mind. He has given up that for the most part and gone mostly silent. He has given up some public appearances like the Target field softball game. I'm pretty certain Love enjoys that type of thing remember he tried out sand Volleyball a couple summers ago. Now he has had to pull out of the WC which has some positives but I bet he would have really liked to participate in that if he had the chance. All this for a chance to possibly go to a better situation and a dream situation in Cleveland is right there. I don't think he wants to screw anything up to have to go back to Minny with all the questions etc like Lip mentioned. After listening to the latest of Flip's funkadelic I think I'm more split on whether this trade will happen or not. I'd say 55-45 in favor of the deal happening. If I had to bet I'd say the deal happens it just makes too much sense.
As long as Wiggins stays on the table, I think a deal will happen. Love's bonehead agent certainly isn't helping things by trying to corner us into dealing him to Cleveland. It could give Cleveland a big head and pull Wiggins off the table at which point Love stays a T Wolf. Yes the deal makes too much sense for both sides, but you still don't want the search to be limited to 1 team because it does get rid of leverage that could end up pulling pieces off the table that you want.
I'm with Kahns here, do you guys think we missed our chance at selling Love at his highest value (right after the Wiggins signing)? I have a bad feeling Cleveland will change their mind and decide to keep Wiggins. I know Lebron runs the show and wants Love, but he's only 30 and I think in a couple years they could be right back in the finals with this team.

I'm pretty confident that CLE and MIN agreed to terms on a trade and that's why Wiggins was signed.

That's what I suspected too Cam, but wouldn't this have info have leaked by now?

Lloyd - You might remember that things got quiet and the reports about a Love trade stopped a couple days before Wiggins signed. At the time, I thought that indicated a deal with the Cavs would be announced last week before Wiggins signed. I still think the quiet signaled that a deal was done, but I now think the deal was contingent on Wiggins first signing with the Cavs for salary match purposes.
Lip, I agree. That would make the most sense, since there hasn't been any chatter in a week. But I just wonder how Stephen A. or some other loudmouth doesn't leak this on their twitter page, somebody outside of the inner circle knows if a deal was done.
