I think Charlotte is the best story in the Association right now, and the team in the East nobody wants to face in the playoffs. After destroying the Celtics in the Gahden last night, they now have won 6 in a row. And after adding Coby White, they now have 5 players averaging nearly 20 PPG on the season plus on/off monster Moussa Diabate who ranks in the top 10 in on/off with our own Donte and a bunch of future HOFers. A really fun story for a team that started the season 4-14!

Charlotte is (or was) one of the Eastern Conference zombie franchises that, along with Washington, chronically lose and seemingly never trade for or sign stars away from the Western Conference, thus indirectly making our lives more difficult in the West by being so uncompetitive both in the trade/free agency market and in actual games against Western conference rivals.

That's a long-winded way of saying I'm happy for them. It is interesting that shortly after Michael Jordan sold his majority interest in the Hornets in 2023 they replaced their front office and head coach. Seems to have paid off.

Both the Clippers and Charlotte have gone a long way from going 4-14 and 6-21 to start the season. With young teams it usually just clicks at some point, we saw it at the end of Ant's rookie season when we went on a tear the last month or two, and the next season we were playoff bound. Two years ago Houston was hot at the end of the season, and than finished the 2nd seed the following seasons. I thought it was going to be Portland this year, but turns out the young team breaking out seems to be Charlotte. Still have to bank on the health of Ball, as he gets injured often, but it's always good to see a young team turn the corner. Now we have to worry about the game we play against them on April 5th.

Instead we're getting expansion

Those same bottom 10 are 2-52 in games where they don't play against each other.

I'm confused by this stat, phenom because our Fighting Wolves alone have 5 losses against the bottom 10 (ouch!). Is there a period of time for your stat?

The last 54 matchups, not a season total

The final season of tanking.
Somewhere on this site... I chronicled the Timberwolves legacy of TANKING. It goes beyond the atrocity and embarrassment of the Mark Madsen game.

The Wolves were something like 2 - 72 down the stretch over several tanking seasons. The actual number is probably in 10 posts of mine, but I'm lazy. It's very close to that though. It was astoundingly awful.

Anyway, I think that phenomenon pairs with the Wolves winning record down the stretch during recent playoff years. With multiple teams trying desperately to lose every season, it's easy to stack up wins when good teams want to win.
