Wow what a MASSIVE DEAL! That's only 300k less than the league record setting contract Kennedy Chandler signed... lol
In all seriousness great we got Minott signed for absolutely dirt cheap for 4 years. Looks great to me even if there ware no team options which I bet there are because even the great Kennedy chandler didn't have all of his money guaranteed.
Fantastic news! That's an average of only $1.7 per year. I don't care if it's all guaranteed with no team opt outs.

Via the athletic app Jon K reports what he has heard is the last 2 years are team options. Keep in mind first round picks don't have 4 year guaranteed deals.

Yep. That's what I thought we'd find out. Minott essentially got what he would have gotten if he had been the 30th pick rather than 45th. Very fair deal for both sides.

Peyton Watson who is on the Nuggets was pick 30. He can get over 11 million on his 4 year deal if they give him the 120% of the rookie salary scale for that slot which is pretty typical. That 4th year (if they make it that far) is where the 1st round guys have a healthy advantage over the Heinkie/Gupta special guys.

Yep this is why if you can find worthwhile players outside of the first round you can get them really cheap for multiple years with very little downside. They don't always work out but when they do it's pretty great.
Note that McLaughlin is making slightly more (almost $230,000) than either Nowell or Naz this season because they likely gave him that little extra money for when they played hardball and kept him on the 2-way deal his 2nd year when he had probably earned that NBA deal after a pretty effective rookie season. That season they never used the roster spot that they left open that they could have used on McLaughlin or another player.
So how did Josh Minott perform in this year's Vegas Summer League? Well, there's a reason the Wolves just gave him a 4-year deal.
He didn't shoot well, hitting only 38.3% of his FG attempts. But he averaged 8.6 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.6 steals in just under 27 minutes per game. He out-rebounded lottery-pick bigs Pablo Banchero, Chet Holmgren and Mark Williams. He averaged more rebounds, blocks and steals than other lottery-pick forwards, including Keegan Murray and Ousmane Dieng. And he's still 19 years old with far less college or pro playing time than any of the aforementioned lottery picks. While his shot obviously needs work, he showed 3-point range and his shot looked much better than it did in his video highlights from college. Add to all that his obvious energy and competitiveness and I'd say Connelly nabbed a precious jewel with the 45th pick in the draft. It just needs a lot of polishing. And now the Wolves organization has four years to polish that pick into a something that will likely shine brightly for the Wolves down the road.

I agree Lip, he looked the part of a raw gem that needs plenty of polish, but beneath the rough surface you can see a bunch of potential. His passing wasn't too bad either, so he definitely checks a lot of boxes as a "do shit" energy big.
The good news is that we have our backup 4 locked in for a couple of years in Kyle Anderson. I think an ideal scenario is that Minott slides into that role of first big off the bench in 2024-25. Obviously a lot of things need to go right in his development for that to happen, but I think that's what the franchise should be aiming for.

I agree with you on Minott's time table and position. I'll just add that he could easily slot in at the 3 spot behind or next to McDaniels at the 4 if his shot comes around. He's so quick and fluid with better ball-handling skills than McDaniels had coming out of college. I love that Minott and McDaniels have identical length with great upside, but different albeit overlapping skill sets. If Minott becomes the player I believe he can be, perhaps we can trade McDaniels in a year or two for two or three of those 1st-round picks we gave up for Gobert. :). I'm just kidding of course. I love McDaniels and if he and Minott both reach their potential the idea of them playing together is really exciting.
Lip, I don't see Minott as a 3. He's already a better rebounder than McDaniels and I think his frame can add weight more readily than McDaniels. In fact, Jaden would be a great 4 if he was better in these two areas and I bet he'll still play some 4 this upcoming season.
My dream scenario is that he becomes the idealized version of what Jarred Vanderbilt could have been - a multi-talented swiss army knife 4 that can rebound, lead the break, guard wings, provide some weakside shot blocking, hit the wide open 3, and be an assist receptacle in the dunker's spot that can catch the damn ball and finish plays around the bucket.
