Maybe we could get Milsap or Ibaka after all?
Re: Maybe we could get Milsap or Ibaka after all?
Thibs knows and has repeatedly said we need more 3-point shooting. Millsap doesn't bring any 3-point shooting. A max contract to Millsap and there is no cap room to sign a meaningful rotation 3-point shooter in free agency. The report makes no sense.

We need to cut cap space to sign Milsap to the max but if he was signed in theory they could sign Wig, towns and Butler to max deals if glen really wanted to (I would not do that)
Who knows, he has been talking pretty big in interviews lately though

Yeah this just isn't true, I don't know why I think people think Milsap can't shoot threes he's been taking multiple a game for four years in a row at the same percentage as Draymond Green over that span. Not everyone can be Ryan Anderson or Kevin Love but he is a threat shooting the 3 from the PF spot so it sounds like something Thibs would like to me

Here's the key Glen Taylor quote from that interview: "We have to find some guys that will come off our bench that are probably either shooters or that can provide a defensive presence when we're starting to have some problems," Taylor said. "So, I think we still have some work to do and I know we're going to be meeting and talking about that. And when (free agency) opens up, trying to find out who's available. ... There's a lot of free agents out there."
Note that Glen is talking about signing free agents to "come off our bench" including bench players who "are probably either shooters or that can provide a defensive presence when we're starting to have problems." That doesn't suggest signing a Paul Millsap or even a Kyle Lowry.

I'm not going to take Glen Taylor's word as gospel lol, I know you like to take he and Thibs words at face value because you view him as a straight shooter but at this point I'm sure Tom knows that if he wants to get something done he can't tell Glen too early because he'll blabber about it. I see him waiting until mere hours before free agency to let Taylor know who he actually wants to sign so he doesn't have a chance to tell somebody. Again if we do get Millsap he will absolutely help our 3-point shooting.

No one said Millsap "can't shoot threes." But for pete's sake, he's not a good 3-point shooter. He's a 32.8% career 3-point shooter with a 31% 3-point average last season. If you're looking to add three-point shooting to the roster, you don't add Millsap. You add him primarily for defense and leadership. We just traded for defense and leadership in Jimmy Butler. But we traded away our best 3-point shooter (LaVine), which takes us from bad to worse as a 3-point shooting team in a League that requires really good 3-point shooting to win. We have around $20 million in cap space, which is less than the max or near max contract it would take to sign Millsap. We can't get the three-point shooting we need with the $3 million room exception and minimum contracts. We'd have to trade both Ricky and Gorgui for cap space to sign Millsap and have enough cap room left to adequately upgrade our three point shooting. But in doing so we'd have made an already disturbingly thin bench even thinner.
Trust me, unless Thibs is an idiot or insane, the Wolves are not going to sign Paul Millsap. Glen Taylor said we need to improve our bench. He was obviously echoing what he's heard in his discussions with Thibs. So that's what the Wolves are going to do. I could see Thibs trading Ricky for cap space and signing Lowry to a max or near max deal because he would bring 3-point shooting and fill a critical position. I don't like that idea, but I can see the logic in it and recognize it's a realistic possibility. But Millsap? I guarantee it won't happen.
Re: Maybe we could get Milsap or Ibaka after all?
If Paul Millsap is a 3 point shooter than so is Ricky Rubio. Look up the numbers. I think people get a little carried away with how they value Millsap and that's coming from a guy that's liked him a lot his whole career.
I have yet to see a credible report that today that says anything about Millsap and the Wolves.

Re: Maybe we could get Milsap or Ibaka after all?
I can see Thibs pursuing Ibaka because of his fit -- i.e, he checks two of the main needs identified by Thibs, namely 3-point shooting and shot-blocking. He also fits Thibs' profile of a guy who's young enough to line up with the window of our young core. I still don't expect us to sign Ibaka, but I'm more inclined to believe rumors of interest in Ibaka than rumors of genuine interest in signing Millsap.
I think we're going to see a lot of free agent names reported in connection with the Wolves over the next week now that Butler is here. Some of those reports might be generated by the Wolves organization with the intent of generating free agent interest in the Wolves.

Most of the free agent rumors come from players agents trying create more competition for their client.
I would prefer Ibaka due to age and shooting ability. I think both are going to get huge paydays and I would rather spread my money out getting top notch bench players.

Just not sold on Ibaka. I like Millsap, but he is older.
Why can't we be the team that gets some of these young guys that didn't pan out on the team that drafted them and make them work like the TrailBlazers did a few years ago?
