Just resurrecting a thread we had on coaches for next year in light of Fred and Malone getting coaching jobs. There are some interesting choices available now. Thibs could shape us into a defense team and probably help gets us into the playoffs. I like Scott Brooks a lot since he groomed a young core and he might help us in free agency. Calipari having groomed Karl might be able to mentor our young core. Jeff Van Gundy has to be on our radar too. Who do you guys like now that Fred is gone and who else should we consider?

Yep. I think we all just need to embrace that at this point.

I can get with that if he just brings in better assistants. Bring back Jack Sikma to coach Towns and Flip can do whatever he wants in my opinion

Sikma was good. He really needs someone to help with the D too.

There's got to be a reason why Dieng went from being the next Bill Russell to the next Anthony Randolph

I totally agree. Sikma and Bayno were great for Pek's development in the post. I'm not feeling anything positive about our coaches to develop, other than maybe Ryan Saunders. And that might be mostly on reputation that he helped with Wall and a few others, and I've seen development in LaVine to echo those sentiments.

I was wanting to mention something about a future HC so this is a good opportunity to do so.

Flip has said a few times in the last couple months he doesn't plan to coach this team long term. What does that mean? Idk but I'll say this there are only so many coaches in the NBA that I think are good regardless of the roster type of talent etc. I am sorta meh on Flip coaching right now unless he adds some assistants that shore up areas we are lacking in as had been suggested a couple posts ago. Now the reality is that unless you get a guy that you think is good regardless of what this roster turns into waiting another year to maybe figure out the identity of this team may be and therefore what coach may be a good fit. I wish the coach could be hired now to create a relationship with these young players but Kerr came in after a popular coach was let go and had guys buy in. I do see the merit in waiting another year to hire a HC because the reality is what we have is a collection of young talent plus some other worthwhile guys but no true identity. Hopefully that's more clear after this year.

I think some of most unheralded... but most important... guys in the NBA are the assistant coaches who handle defense for teams. Basically, Thibodeau on the Celtics sorts of guys.

With Saunders known as an offensive guy, I'd like to see the Wolves break from the country club and hire a forward-thinking defensive guy. Sam Mitchell (is he the defensive "guru?") is certainly not that guy.
