Miller, Terry, and Cole are the top rated PG's left. I still have the stuff Karl said about Miller rattling around in my head. He might be the perfect backup and mentor for Jones. Jones is going make it in this league on being crafty and smart or he is not going to make it at all. Miller did exactly that during his career.
Miller would absolutely be great. He would also be good for all the young Wolves players maybe he could help Lavine some also. I don't see it happening though but I suppose you never know.
I have always liked to Cole but I see him as more of a spark plug guy not a vet PG that is going to help young guys out in the game. Plus you have to pay him enough since he is a RFA they don't match. The Wolves don't have the money or the role to make that happen.
It's about 2 months till TC and I don't know if we will have much Timberwolves FA/trade news for a while but you never know I guess.
I think this is really terrific news. Is there anyone who doesn't like Andre Miller? Never very athletic, not very conventional, but always able to get the job done. 11.1 APG for his career with only 3.7 TOs, and even last year he was 8.3 vs 3.4 on a per 36 basis. He's never been known as a great defender, but his defensive numbers aren't much worse late in his career than they were in the beginning. And because he runs such an efficient offense, his +/- numbers have always been stellar, despite any defensive deficiencies. Doesn't miss many games, and doesn't need to be a starter at this stage of his career. As good as Brown looked in Vegas, I look for Miller to back up Rubio and (oh, oh...here comes that word again) "mentor" Jones. I'd love to see Jones learn from Miller and become a clone...albeit with a better 3-point shot.
Signing a veteran PG like Miller tells me that Flip thinks we are in the playoff hunt this year, just like trading for Thad Young last year signaled Flip's belief that we were a playoff team last year. Once most of our stars got hurt last year, Flip abandoned his playoff hopes and started giving big minutes to his youngsters...case in point, starting LaVine at PG after Rubio's injury even though it was clear that Mo was a better choice. I expect the same thing this year. If we are healthy, I agree with Flip...that this team can compete. If so, I see Miller getting the 12-15 minutes a game that Rubio doesn't get, while Tyus learns from the bench or gains some experience in the D league. But if we suffer the same level of injuries this year that we have the past few years, I think Flip will give Miller's minutes to Tyus. Just a guess as to what Flip's approach will be, but I would be in favor of this strategy.
I also think that Miller's defense will be much less of an issue if he has a shot blocker like Towns on the court with him, rather than Pek. Another reason it's important for our playoff hopes this year to have Pek starting, and Towns coming off the bench.
Very good signing. Having andre miller out there is like having a coach out there. The guy knows how to run a team. I really like this move. There wont be a big drop off when rubio sits in terms of running the plays and getting the guys in their proper spots. Solid signing by flip.
LST I think adding Miller means Flip thinks there is a chance to compete but I also think of you can bring in a player like Miller to a young team like this one to also help with development it's a flat out no brainer. Name a vet PG (or guard) that you would rather have both on the floor and being able to show guys how to play by playing on the floor than Andre Miller? He knows how to play has been successful everywhere he has gone. He has played PG in a ton of systems played with other PGs there really isn't much he hasn't seen or done. I don't want to get carried away but his impact on young players could be pretty significant. if Miller is sold on this team I think that means a little something although we have no idea how many teams were really interested. My guess is there wasn't a long list and Miller clearly wants to play.
I will admit to being a little sad this likely means the end of Lorenzo Brown for now. He would have been another guy that would have benefited from learning from Miller. Like Q said a while back Brown seems on the cusp of beig a useful player. Getting Miller Is a terrific deal so I'll be over it soon. Lol
