A question, and a Wolves/Knicks GDT
Re: A question, and a Wolves/Knicks GDT
Fun win for us. We needed this win. Any win we can get while rubio is out is great.
Martin showed up tonight. Easily could have 40pts had he not unexpectedly miss 4 fts. Shumpert couldnt guard him.
Wiggins teased us in the 2nd quarter then went invisible in the 2nd half. Not worry about him though, he will be great in time.
Brew and bazz were fun to watch. Both attack relentlessly and go balls out everytime they attack the rim. They are not afraid of contact and will go at you full on. Love that attitude.
Dieng was huge in the 3rd. He had like 4-5 steals in that quarter and got his hands on a lot of balls, forced to's and frustrate the heck out of amare.
Mo was very good tonight. Run the offense, got teammates involved and made his shots.
The knicks are bad. Fisher looks like a fish out of the water. Not sure he is ready to be a coach.
Fun win tonight. Never thought Id see hummel as the team's center. Weird but effective lineups from flip.

The vets won this game for us: Martin, Brewer, and Mo. You can't live with 'em, you can't live without 'em. I'm sure in another game or two, we'll all want them traded again. But tonight they're safe!
Awkward game for Wiggins. Again, we see the flashes, but man is he raw and mechanical out there. LaVine was a trainwreck (sorry Cool), and Bennett threw up some crappy shots (those damn long 2's!), but did OK. Dieng and Shabazz were good, not great.

Bazz just needs refinement, but his style of play is contagious. Love to see him make the most of his PT.

I'm afraid it's fools gold -- the Knicks still shot 50%!!! They just stink at everything else.
But I'm still thrilled with the win. It's all about guys building chemistry right now. Mo in the starting lineup was superb and really helped the starting unit execute. And Dieng instead of Pek was a big factor as well.

Tim, Good point. We will never be a truly effective defense until we get that opponent eFG% down (one of the vaunted 4-factors JPete always refers to). We forced a bunch of turnovers, but it masked our inability to get stops otherwise. Dieng and Brewer are two peas in a pod in this respect: Both are great at ball-denial and steals, but boy, if their man gets the ball and squares up, they're toast. Stoudemire gave a clinic on why Gorgui sucks at one-on-one defense. Simply put a shoulder into him and he goes toppling backwards 5 feet. It's amazing how weak his base is.

And every body who reckons Martin has a bad contract raise your hands.
I don't feel he has a bad contract, but I would still be open to trading him before Brewer just because he doesn't bring it everynight and he is on the wrong side of 30 for this team.

"I'd love to see Bazz get 25 minutes tonight, and some time guarding Melo."
Bazz had a great game, as did Martin, Williams, Brewer and Dieng.
Where are the trade/dump K-Mart supporters?
Where are the Shabazz haters?
I'm slightly kidding, but I'm enthusedto get this win. Great way to start the home stand.

I think Gorgi's biggest issue is not getting up tight on his man. He continues to let them face him up, and it is all over when that happens. I also don't think his BBIQ is real high.
Shabazz is exactly what this team needs. A guy that plays a little reckless, but is very physical. It is nice change of pace from most of our guys.
Flip has to work with Bennett and Zach to reduce the 20ft jumpers. Both should be putting the ball on the floor and driving. Pull up for a ten footer if needed.
Martin's hot start really got the team going. It's amazing how big the hoop gets when a couple early ones go in.

My hand wouldn't go up either wolf. I was so excited on that draft night. I was lobbying for Bazz even before the draft. I am very happy to see him having success.

The worst thing Dieng could have done last night is get in foul trouble knowing we have no other big men available behind him. I'm assuming that's part of the reason Gorgui wasn't more aggressive. I thought he really came through for us when we needed him to log big minutes. He wasn't perfect by any means, but I certainly think he was effective. Right now Gorgui's PER rating is tied for 6th for all NBA centers. He's been a rare draft pick for the Wolves that is actually exceeding expectations IMO.
