not the NBA, but Minnesota Lynx drafted Olivia Miles 2nd overall.
Miles is nice, but all these teams are loading up on tall bigs that can move. Just feels like a Pacers-like year coming for Cheryl Reeve's team
Kinda liked the big center from UCLA, but what do I know? Interested in what kek thinks.
Completely fine with the pick. This draft has 4 tier 1C prospects (meaning I think they are 3rd best players on championship teams or 2 or less All Star appearances). Each of the players have their strengths and weaknesses.
Fudd: Elite shooter but struggled to get her shot off against WNBA defenders
Miles: very good passer, high IQ, good but not great scorer and a little smaller
Fam: highest upside, athletic, 4/5 but played the weakest competition
Bett: Very good post defender, good post player, can’t spread the floor at the moment and I’ll be curious how she does guarding in space.
Overall fine with the pick, Cheryl just doesn’t believe in the traditional post player, she wants to play 5 out so I’m not shocked they didn’t take Betts (a little surprised they didn’t take Fam)
Lynx on paper taking a big step back, losing 2 starters, their 6,7,8 and 9th woman. Phee is out at least half the year, McBride got hurt on an airplane and had surgery complications so she is expected to miss the beginning of the year because she can’t fly at the moment.
The Lynx might be bad with that said Cheryl finds under the radar talent all the time. 2 years ago I wanted them to tank for Paige and they ended that season a missed travel can away from a championship. Lynx signed Howard who is solid, Nia Coffey (Hopkins alum) and 2 complete unknown players from overseas they in just expecting to be great because that is what Cheryl does

Off topic, but I do find it interesting that Dallas drafted its star's girlfriend. Not being judgmental at all, but it probably wouldn't have made Paige happy if they had passed on Fudd. Can you imagine if an NBA team had two guys in their locker room that were dating? It would be huge news! But it's no big deal in the WNBA.

To be fair, in the history of the NBA (and other pro leagues for that matter) there have probably been two guys in the same locker room "dating"

Ya it’s an interesting wrinkle to team building. Last year I can think of 3 couples off the top of my head. One signed together in Dallas and it was extremely toxic to the locker room and both were traded and one won the title. 2 of the better players in the league are married in AT and Bonner, Bonner signed a max with the Fever last year and hated being away from AT she pretty much pulled a Jimmy Butler and the Fever cut her and she returned to play with her wife and they made the F4. And the other couple is on different teams and they don’t bring drama

This offseason the Dallas Mavericks are targeting Tim Connelly as their No. 1 target for president of basketball operations.

Smart move by Dallas. It would hurt to lose TC. I hate that he's made some errors, like not trading Randle in the offseason, but he's done far more good than bad. We won't know what we had until he's gone, if he's gone.

I'd hate to lose TC also...inconsistent draft record, but stellar trading performance. And as connected as anyone in the league.
But I don't know how Dallas would be able to steal him away, since he opted into his contract last summer...we own him through 2027. I guess I understand why he might prefer the Dallas job over ours...they have a young star in Flagg and a better draft situation than the Wolves. But I also think his star would be tarnished if he left a job because of a poor draft situation that he created. I think Tim MacMahon is pretty reliable, so I don't doubt that Dallas is targeting TC...I just don't see it happening.

Dallas doesn't have control over their next 4 firsts after this season. The Wolves might even end up with their 2030 pick. The Wolves will get 2nd best pick between Dallas, Minnesota and San Antonio unless the Wolves get the #1 pick.
Anyway, not amazing for building around Flagg.

At tip-off I was heavily rooting for the Hornets, but after Lamelo took Bam out of the game with a dirty play I'm happy to see them lose!
