Re: Vet PG who do you want?
I'm disappointed in the move. Miller has no potential to hold the ship together if Ricky goes down and that leaves Zach and Tyus as the primary floor generals on the team. I was hoping for a vet PG like we got Mo last year as a better glue guy if Ricky goes down. Miller just can't play 30 minutes a night so this move all comes down to Ricky's health. If Ricky stays healthy it's a meh move, but if Ricky goes down we're gonna pay a steep price for bringing in a corpse instead of a younger veteran who could play 30 minutes if needed.
Re: Vet PG who do you want?
I'm not surprised by the signing. But I'm not excited by it either. At best Miller is a 15-minute per game back up to Ricky who can run the half-court offense reasonably well. But he's not a particularly good addition for several reasons:
1. As Kahn's mentioned, Miller is not a guy who can replace Ricky at 30+ minutes a game if Ricky goes down.
2. We need perimeter shooting off the bench and Miller is a poor 3-point shooter.
3. If we're going to be good offensively it will be based on a fast-paced running style that takes advantage of our youth and athleticism. Miller was slow and unathletic at age 30. So he doesn't seem to fit the team's style or strength.
4. We need to improve defensively and Miller is a pretty poor defender. I suspect he's even worse on the eve of his 40th birthday.
A bad signing? Not really - unless the minutes he gets stifle the development of Jones. But personally I'd rather see what Brown can do as our principle backup and hope that Jones eventually looks a lot better than he did in Summer League. Thankfully, he's cheap and not a key to this team's success or failure.

Re: Vet PG who do you want?
Cool - I think this signing underscores who Flip really is as a coach. He coaches an old-world half-court, low turnover mid-range range jump shooting style on the offensive end. So while he talks about a running style and about liking the 3-point shot, what he actually does as a coach is quite different. He's nearly 60 years old and is very set in his ways. So when it comes down to it, he'll coach the way he's always coached. So prepare for a season of half court offense marked by a lot of mid-range shots. And prepare for more poor to mediocre defense. As long as Flip is head coach that's what we're likely to see from the Wolves. Miller fits that mold.

How is Andre Miller who is a top level passer, above average rebounder and a guy that loves to throw lobs going to slow down the Wolves?

By walking the ball up the court and moving at the speed of a 40-year old who was never fast in his 20's. And I don't recall Miller distinguishing himself as a Kevin Love caliber outlet passer.

Sorry you will have to endure a minute or so of old man stuff in the first half of the video before there are se passes to guys including that athletic Williams dude. I didn't cherry pick this either it was the first video that came up from last season.

Re: Vet PG who do you want?
I think generally Andre Miller has played with the pace that his coach has wanted. Just a couple of years ago already at the age of 37, Andre Miller had 7th highest pace of all point guards playing more than 20 minutes per game. But it was because he played in team that played with high pace in general. Denver had 2nd highest pace of all teams that year. He played also with relatively high pace in his 1st stint in Denver.
When he played in Portland, he had lowest pace of all point guards but Portland had played with really low pace even before he arrived. So Miller didn't seem to affect that. Sure getting Miller won't make Wolves faster pace team but if Flip wants that team will run, he doesn't slow that down either.
I agree that it would have been nice to get someone with better outside shot and defense and even better would have been to get young veteran that could have been contributing longer to the team. But when that kind players like Cory Joseph will get 30 million/4 years contracts, it is better to get player like Miller for one year and hope that Tyus will be ready for the job in the beginning of next season.
One thing that I somehow hope is that Rubio and Tyus Jones would learn little from Miller how relatively small and unathletic guy can still finish well at rim. Miller has career average better than 60% finishing at rim even though more than 33% of his shots are from that area. It also seems that he has maintained that ability even last couple of years.

Re: Vet PG who do you want?
Here is my take.
The only way this goes bad is if Rubio gets hurt. And if he does it won't matter. I will take LaVine starting and Andre backing him up over anything that is still available in free agency. I think he will only help the team.
Check out what George Karl said at the 3:45 mark about Andre Miller being the smartest player he has coached.

While you are at it Kevin McHale says the same about KG at the 6:40 mark.
