Just realized that a straight-up Prince-Prichard swap won’t work. Because the Celtics are a tax paying team, they can’t take back that much excess salary. If the Celtics included Champgnie in the deal, it would work. But in that case, the Wolves would only save $1.5 million. That MIGHT still be enough to sign both NAW and Naz without exceeding the luxury tax threshold, but I’m not sure. If so, then the swap still makes sense. Actually, I liked Champagnie in last year’s draft.kekgeek wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 2:30 pm Personally I just think the Prince for Pritchard swap makes way too much sense. Celtics replace the Grant Williams role who they can’t sign long term if they want to avoid the 2nd tax bracket. The wolves get a back up PG that can shoot. Save 3.5 million. Allows us to sign Naz and Naw to around 18 million total a year and then can use that extra 3.5 million to either sign our 2nd round pick long term, Luka Garza long term, another FA that we could offer more than the min to , etc. Also adds Minott to the rotation.
I like melton and Carter but they are going to cost Naz or Naw to acquire them financially. I would rather get rid of Prince than Naz or Naw and still have some financial flexibility
Potential PG Trade Targets

Mike Muscala is another option to match salaries. The real question is whether the Celtics value Prince and or that’s the best they can get for Pritchard. As much as I like Prince I think he is legit a step down from Grant Williams especially defensively plus he has problems staying healthy.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 9:59 pmI’d hate to lose Prince, but I think you’re spot on, Kek. As you noted, a Prince-Prichard swap makes too much sense for both teams not to happen.kekgeek wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 2:30 pm Personally I just think the Prince for Pritchard swap makes way too much sense. Adding Pritchard means they would have added a key guard I think all of us think they need so that would cross something off the offseason shopping list. It would mean they may need to find another forward as a FA to replace Prince but there may be some cheap options and if they resign NAW he can provide minutes at SF also.
FWIW I don’t think Naw is going to cost a whole lot of money (no more than 5 million a year) to bring back.
Re: Potential PG Trade Targets
So it sounds like the Wizards and Beal are finally exploring a trade. I’d guess that would make Monte Morris available. I don’t know what his trade value would be around the league. He is a good player but how good? I think Connelly may know who he is. Lol
Re: Potential PG Trade Targets
I hate to see Prince go because we badly need his shooting and vet leadership, UNLESS we get an equivalent or better shooter in return, which is what Pritchard is. The other thing I like about Payton is simply the organization he's coming from. He has already played in 39 (!!) playoff games. That's just effing crazy looking at it through a Timberwolves fan's lens. He knows his role and he knows how to play with elite wings like Ant.
