It really shouldn't have to be this way. Literally its only a couple folks on this board that intensely dislike him for borderline irrational reasons. Everywhere else I've looked has almost universally lauded the move - and if they didn't necessarily like the move for fit reasons, they still like the player.

Also, I would hope Rubio comes back with different expectations than his first stint, when he was the #5 pick and expected to help lift the franchise out of the doldrums, which of course he didn't quite live up to.

His job is to be a steadying veteran presence that can complement the first unit, QB the second unit, get the stars their shots, and play some solid defense. He isn't expected to carry this team to victory night in and night out. That's on KAT and DLO.

I don't think there will be any problems with Ricky Rubio understanding his role in Minnesota considering it's the exact same role he had last year in Phoenix. His job was to compliment Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton and he excelled there, I'd say. Actually, we could make an argument that Rubio's coming off the best year of his career despite his weak areas. Instead of Booker and Ayton, obviously he'll be setting up Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell, and Anthony Edwards to some degree.

I didn't necessarily like or agree with re-acquiring Rubio from a roster balance and trade value standpoint, but there's no denying that he's a positive contributor on the court. The fit is wonky in terms of how this team is constructed, but Rubio's role and how he handles it will be seamless, in my opinion.

What is obvious is that we need a PF on the roster. Juancho is likely coming back and we need a better player than him as our starting PF. Otherwise, I fear rosas and saunders are planning to run a 4 guard lineup with okogie or edwards at the 4 and I dont like that 1 bit.

Expect to see layman spend time at the 4 but he is a poor rebounder and too weak for to bang inside. Q's guy vanderbilt might get some run but like layman and mcdaniels, they can't matchup physically with the star 4's in the league.

Vanderbilt might have the physicality now to do it. He does look stronger. I think the question now is more about whether he is actually any good at defense than his physical traits.

I am 100% positive they want to give Vandy more run this year, but more likely as a backup 4 vs. starting 4. I mentioned in the other thread that PJ Tucker would be an excellent trade target given the potential of Houston to blow it all up. He's got one year left on his deal, can defend, and hit the open 3.

Is Joakim Noah available? Would he take league minimum?

I almost forgot the one major negative of re-acquiring Rubio.. Listening to Kevin Lynch complain about how Rubio isn't a great shooter after ever game (even if Rubio were to go for a triple double). If you're not a scoring PG, Kevin Lynch will talk at nauseum about how bad you are.
