I've very clearly given my reasons why I don't want Thibs to be my coach. I want the right coach, not just a better coach.

I've been confused by a lot of things on this site.

But any claims that my takes are "smart-ass comebacks" in this thread are going right over my head. I think I've been more than fair trying to see both sides of the issue and offering reasonable takes backed up with tangible data and information.

Maybe... slowly... I'm starting to realize this site isn't for me, not that anybody should care one way or the other.

Well Thibs was a 1st year coach when Rose had his coming out party so I find it hard to believe Thibs was helping him develop into the player he became during the off season when most players improve. Thibs helped D Rose go from an atrocious defender to an ok defender, but how about we don't give the defensive minded coach credit for Rose's offensive development? Everybody's seen Thibs' offense. I don't see how he's the guy who helped Rose become an MVP caliber offensive player.

I want a better coach so that the right coach will eventually come here because the better coach helped create a winning environment so said right coach will say, "that better coach did a pretty good job, I think I'll be an even better coach."

I don't think that's why he won COY though. Wouldn't the COY have more to do with taking a 41 win team with almost the same nucleus and winning 62 games with them?

If GSW wins a title, in this copycat league, we might see more of those types of moves. The problem is... how many Steve Kerrs are out there waiting...


[Note: That's another reason I would take Thibodeau. It's hard to argue the team would win more games and build an identity. But like Skiles. And Musselman way back when... and others in NBA history... eventually, his ways probably would wear thin. But it's a lot easier luring that awesome super duper coach to take a team over the top than it is to convince him to take over a 66 loss team with a former coach as his boss.]

It's 3 against 2 in this situation so it's not just you. I used the myopic example because the other call outs were on other pages I couldn't see on my phone. It wasn't sarcasm on your part, but you did basically call me out for not being able to see how good Thibs would be with us when the point I am making is it won't be good enough in the end anyway so I don't care much for hiring a placeholder.

OK. See my post above. And my other posts on the subject. I simply don't see any other coaches with anywhere close to Thib's pedigree looking here (hypothetically, considering I don't think he even looks here). So, I'm totally cool with him being consolation prize or whatever and getting the Wolves CLOSER... where maybe the team could attract that Steve Kerr type to take them over the top in a few years.

I just don't think that it's realistic to think such a crappy team that's been historically crappy with a very powerful man in charge (who's a coach himself) could lure anything remotely close to better than Thibodeau.

I think it's comical that khans takes something away from Thibs' COY award because he had the MVP of the league, but 100% refuses to give him any leeway in the playoffs when he was WITHOUT that MVP player. You're justifying an argument by whatever you see fit and I'm calling you on it. It's just not fair in this case. Either give him credit for the COY or lighten up on the playoff record thing.

Actually, he has a history of the opposite. All-Star caliber players that have worked with Thibs have been vocal about how much they love and appreciate the guy.

So, me thinks you were talking out of your ass on that specific element of the topic. I can agree about his offensive shortcomings and SOME of the coaches you named that were better (Pop, Carlisle, Kerr, Bud; that's literally it), but the alienating thing is so far off base it's absurd.

Let me clarify: I never said he alienated any specific Bulls players. What I said was his style is not a good match with the mindset of today's NBA star. If I had to bet, I would say he has alienated some of his players. And I agree with those below who say it will be interesting to see what comes out now that he isn't in charge. One thing I do know is that upper management (Foreman, Paxson) felt he was too demanding of the players from a physical standpoint. You can debate that if you like, but that's what they told the players at the beginning of the season.
