I'm sorry but this is such bs on Rudy's part. Do your effing job and stop pouting, or don't wait until your 33 effing years old to learn post moves.
Fact is Ant has been passing to Rudy significantly more this year both on lobs and short rolls from the top of the key, but Rudy can't do anything that far from the basket. If that screener was Jaden they would be lethal cause teams wouldn't be able to trap Ant there without getting burned by Jaden... But it's Rudy so teams can trap Ant and the "correct" basketball play is to pass to Rudy and he's completely ineffective
I love stats but the can’t do anything with the ball off the roll is just factually incorrect this year.
According to NBA.com 78 players have had 10+ screen and roll possessions where they get a touch. Rudy ranks
34th in Points per Possession (slightly above average)
28th in eFG%
28th in turnover rate % (meaning he’s above average in not turning the ball over)
9th on shooting foul rate (getting the wolves to the bonus sooner).
23rd in score frequency
Even though it’s not visually pretty when he gets a touch on the role but Rudy has been slightly above average in these situations this year.
I'm not sure this makes the point you're hoping it does.
1. This suggest that he is getting plenty of opportunities on offense
2. He is average at best when he does, which doesn't exactly belie the idea that he should get more opportunities than he is currently getting. Perhaps he is getting as many as he deserves because the return on them is average.
I've said many times that I don't have a probably with Rudy and I think he's a net positive for the team, but I can't stand the idea that he pouts and under preforms when he doesn't get as many shots up as he seems to think he should
There is 26 Timberwolves players (some listed twice) that qualify in running the following play types 10 or more possessions this year (iso, pick and roll handler, pick and roll screener, spot up, post up, hand off and off screen).
A Rudy touch on the PnR ranks 8th in the wolves most effective play type. Also some of the PPP numbers get a little screwed because shooting a 3 is going to get more points than a pick and roll touch. The 7 play types better than Rudy PnR touch this year are.
Naz, Jaden, Conley, Donte spot up
Randle iso
Jaden pick and roll handler
Ant hand off
I’m not saying we should just give Rudy a ton of touches but I just strongly disagree with the statement with he is ineffective and can’t do anything with the ball because the numbers say otherwise.
