Lip, the only way that's going to happen is if Ant himself sets the example. And I don't think he has the mettle to do it. I'm talking day in, day out being the leader this team needs in it's best player. He simply doesn't have the overall character to be the main man on a championship team. And history is going to prove it.
Since Ant got drafted to the wolves they've been one of the best teams in the league. By what metrics are you using if not team success?
I'm talking about winning championships, which is all I care about. We haven't won a championship. We haven't played for a championship, even though we were favored to against Dallas. Ant is a supremely gifted player, but he isn't leading the Wolves to a title. Both things can be true.
Cool, is this "championship or bust" mantra a new thing?
Because you must have had a lot of sleepless nights as a MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES fan who posted thousands of times on this forum for 10+ years now.
Now, when the team is in the middle of its clearcut most successful run in franchise history... it's suddenly woefully short of your expectations.
Aussie, stick your neck out like I do. If you disagree so much, how many years before the Wolves win a championship with Ant as the hub? Don't just disagree with everything I say. I feel like Trump on MSDNC. Tell us when it's going to happen.
It's hardly sticking your neck out to say we won't win a championship with [insert any player] as our leader. If the NBA just drew straws every year to decide who would win a title, odds are the Wolves would have only won one title in its entire history as a franchise so far. There is nothing bold in what you are saying.
At the same time, I too have my doubts about Ant becoming an MVP-caliber player, but that's based on how he performs on the floor, where I suppose some of his immaturity does manifest itself.
I agree with what you're saying, but again, all I care about is championships. It's that lens from which I write. I've told you why i think the way that i do, and given you reasons. And all I ever get is, "you just hate Ant, or "He's only 24 years old". I offer strong opinions because that's what i think you should do on a forum like this. And the people I respect on here are the ones that do the same, whether I agree with them or not.
KG didn't get us there, but he did it in Boston, Cassell didn't get us there, but he didn't it on multiple teams, Wiggins didn't do it here, but he did it in Golden State, Love didn't do it here, but he did it in Cleveland. We've (Wolves) been doing this for 37 years, and Ant is the only superstar that has lead us to two WCF, why not see if we can get over that hump. He's getting better every year, the mid range is fantastic as are his clutch stats. If we had this Ant two years ago, we easily would have taken out Dallas he just wasn't there yet.

It's an interesting development.
I just think championships are what every sports franchise should be chasing. I know many years it's not realistic, but it should be the goal. This is a fun time to be a Wolves fan because we are a contender. But I also enjoyed those lean years when all we had was hope and maybe a young player or two to get excited about. My current expectations are tempered because I don't believe Ant is the guy who can lead you to a championship. He will have nights where even I marvel and wonder if he's got the goods. but so did Dominique Wilkins , Drexler in Portland, KG in Minnesota. They either didn't win in the case of Wilkins, or had to get with other alphas to get it done. This Wolves team can't get it done as currently constructed. If we could get Giannis, Booker, or Maxey in here without giving up Ant I would probably change my tune. Regardless, I want to see TC take a big swing and go for it.
