It sounds like the Warriors will use their Iggy trade exception to add Kelly Oubre for a 2021 top protected 1st round pick. If it isn't conveyed in 2021 it turns into two 2nd round picks. OKC just keeps stacking up the draft assets. I can't wait till they trade Horford to some team that wants him in like a year. Lol

Meanwhile the Warriors now have Oubre and Wiggins a couple talented guys that haven't really put it together. Maybe their Kansas brotherhood will help them reach new heights. Oubre will cost GS like 80 million this year because of the lux tax. I find GS an interesting team this season for a few reasons.

I can come in for cheap and just dole out hard fouls. Vet min or even a 2 way. I would need some stilts.

Dang! I might have come out of my cave and check things out. Or was that prohibited by Walz? ;-)

Doug! Where were you? Yeah we got the maestro back. Get ready for more chats ad naseum about his shooting.

It really shouldn't have to be this way. Literally its only a couple folks on this board that intensely dislike him for borderline irrational reasons. Everywhere else I've looked has almost universally lauded the move - and if they didn't necessarily like the move for fit reasons, they still like the player.

Also, I would hope Rubio comes back with different expectations than his first stint, when he was the #5 pick and expected to help lift the franchise out of the doldrums, which of course he didn't quite live up to.

His job is to be a steadying veteran presence that can complement the first unit, QB the second unit, get the stars their shots, and play some solid defense. He isn't expected to carry this team to victory night in and night out. That's on KAT and DLO.

I don't think there will be any problems with Ricky Rubio understanding his role in Minnesota considering it's the exact same role he had last year in Phoenix. His job was to compliment Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton and he excelled there, I'd say. Actually, we could make an argument that Rubio's coming off the best year of his career despite his weak areas. Instead of Booker and Ayton, obviously he'll be setting up Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell, and Anthony Edwards to some degree.

I didn't necessarily like or agree with re-acquiring Rubio from a roster balance and trade value standpoint, but there's no denying that he's a positive contributor on the court. The fit is wonky in terms of how this team is constructed, but Rubio's role and how he handles it will be seamless, in my opinion.

Cam - I feel the same way about Rubio. It's not a deal I would have made and I think $17 million a year for two years is a lot for a backup PG. I'll add that no one should delude themselves into thinking Ricky will significantly upgrade the team's weak three-point shooting. Ricky is a career 33% shooter from behind the arc. Yes, Ricky hit 36% of his threes last season, but he only hit 31% of his threes the previous season. The shooting statistics of 9-year vets like Ricky tend to regress to the mean, absent a clear trend one way or the other. Ricky's 3-point shooting has been up and down throughout his career with no clear trend up or down. In fact, his third best 3-point percentage was in his first NBA season.

Having said all that, Ricky brings a lot of positives to the table. He's a tremendous playmaker and tenacious defender who also rebounds really well at his position. So while he doesn't significantly shore up the team's poor three-point shooting, he will significantly improve the team's poor defense. He's also a tremendous person and should be a great leader for the Wolves both on and off the court. Ricky's leadership will be particularly important given the lack of maturity and leadership on the current roster. So while I would not have traded for Ricky two nights ago, you'll never hear me complaining about having him on the team. To the contrary, I see him as one of the bright spots worth watching.

Apparently, the Wolves made a pitch to Derrick Jones Jr. in free agency. He's a fine player, but how many wings does this team need? Is there a conclusion to take away from the interest? Minnesota might not think too highly of Josh Okogie or Jarrett Culver at this moment in time.
