Re: Vikings 2017 Off-season
I didn't realize he played 16 games both seasons. It seemed like last year was the first time he lived up to his contract. I really am hoping for big things from Morgan, but after him we are very thin and this draft looks like we could get some solid at pretty much any point and even a possible upgrade over Randolph as late as 4th round.

I am all for drafting a tight end this year, if the draft dictates it, and I hope that happens in the first 4 rounds. Rudolph can be cut next year with only a 1.3 mil cap hit so having one of these TE picks would be great. I want to go BPA in the first 3 picks this draft as it seems to be deep with overall talent through 3 rounds. TE is a stacked position, so one of these three could very well be one.
My prediction is 3 of DT / OL / TE / LB in the first 3 picks.

Upgrading Rudolph with a 4th rounder is asking a lot even if this class is supposed to be talented. Remember 2015 he was blocking a lot that was a significant part of the reason he didn't have higher numbers. Also to put it in perspective he was 2nd is targets and yards on that team and led them with 5 receiving TDs. The issue with Rudolph is him staying healthy otherwise he is a pretty good player. Im not suggesting he is awesome but because of his injuries and the ineptness of the Vikings offense people tend to think the guy is sort of average.
I'll add that Truesdell obviously is a long shot but he has had some interest in the past from a couple NFL teams that brought him to mini camp and training camp and some workouts. He wasn't anywhere near being on the cusp or even on a practice squad but I wouldn't say he is some complete long shot either. It looks like the Vikings gave him $10,000 guaranteed which sounds like nothing but Blake Baratz said on the last purple podcast (interesting listen BTW) most teams don't give any of those type of guys any guanteed money and it's tough on these fringe types. So...that means the Vikings like him a LITTLE more than the other whatever dudes and they had to dig in the couch cushions to get him away from some other teams who wanted him. Kinda sad really but anyway he isn't a guy you plan your draft around but he is probably more than just a camp body.

I like Rudolph with his nose so bright. :-)
No in all seriousness. He is close to top 10 TE in the league. It is just that this draft has 10+ players that could be better than him in 2 years. I think Morgan has the potential to be as good, but has a long way to go. I don't think Morgan would have gotten drafted in this class.

That's just overselling this class. There's just not going to be that many that pan out. From what I have heard it's a lot of potential and not a lot of actual production. That to me says a lot won't pan out and this class will look a lot weaker in hindsight because they were all physical tools and not a lot of real production.

I did say could be. I think the position has gotten a lot of attention lately and guys that might have been LB or DE are now playing TE.

Review of current LB situation.
http://www.startribune.com/vikings-draft-preview-spielman-has-history-of-targeting-linebackers-late-in-the-draft/419825313/
Projected starters: SLB Anthony Barr, MLB Kentrell Brothers, WLB Eric Kendricks.
Don't forget about: Robinson. Coaches have loved this guy's atypical height and length, skill set and work ethic since taking him out of tiny Newberry College with the 232nd overall pick in 2015. He has been Barr's backup on the strong side, starting there twice as a rookie. Can he, in Year 3, evolve into a competitor for playing time on the weak side now that Greenway is gone?
Level of need: Moderate.
Five prospects to remember: Day 3 options: Steven Taylor, ILB, Houston; Kendell Beckwith, ILB, LSU; Jimmie Gilbert, OLB, Colorado; Marquel Lee, OLB, Wake Forest; Hardy Nickerson, OLB, Illinois.
Our best guess: Spielman will make at least one trade that will garner at least one extra seventh-round pick. Then he'll use one of those seventh-round picks on a college linebacker for the sixth consecutive season. The first five all made the team. Only Watts fizzled.

I read it yesterday and still am lost. So we get him another year if he doesn't play this year?

The short story is...yes. NFL contracts seem so confusing to me.
