Something along those lines. I wouldn't include any draft compensation nor would I include both Covington and Culver or another young piece like Okogie or Bates-Diop. You try to keep Covington if you can. I don't think the price is going to be too high considering Golden State's situation this year and the fact that Curry and Thompson should be back and healthy next year. I still don't believe Russell was ever going to be in the long-term plans for Golden State, but they didn't want to let Durant walk without getting something for him.
Warriors make a deal like this to revamp for next year with a better fitting piece at a much lower AAV.
Wolves obviously make this deal because they still need to gather cornerstone players and time is ticking on the Karl-Anthony Towns deadline.
GUARD: D'Angelo Russell
WING: Josh Okogie
WING: Andrew Wiggins
WING: Robert Covington
BIG: Karl-Anthony Towns
The above would be a realistic yet ideal starting five for the Wolves post-trade, assuming Ryan Saunders still wants to roll with Okogie.

You think the Warriors would sell that low? I'm not so sure. They're going to have a damn good draft pick and tons of depth. If they keep Russell I don't see the cash really being that big of a deal for them. I find it hard to believe they wouldn't want to run a full lineup with a draft stud and Russell on the team before giving up on him.

I don't see how it's feasible at all for Golden State to have Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and D'Angelo Russell on the roster if they're going to re-sign Draymond Green this summer. They were already thin before when it was Kevin Durant in Russell's salary spot -- but it was acceptable because he was a top-three player in the world. I like Russell, but he's not that. One of those guys have to go and Russell is the clear man out.
Would they sell that low is a different question. I don't know what they'd take for him. I think they'd have high interest in Covington. I think they'd also really like Culver since he would hypothetically play next to Curry and/or Thompson. Highly-touted draft pick having an okay rookie season. His value is still intact. Who knows. I just think the Warriors are kind of stuck with him and they might like to come off of him for players that fit better for less cost.

Culver can certainly be the next Shawn Livingston for them. I don't get the sense that the luxury it that concerning to them, only having talent. You may be right that Covington and Culver give them a better team, but if money was no object I see what it's like to have Russell as their 4th star.
Woj reporting that the Wolves are pursing Russell and Lowry. Probably in that order as a Plan A and Plan B. Russell was never a good fit for the Warriors. I think they dealt for and signed him with the intent to trade him before next season when Thompson comes back.
crazy-canuck wrote:Cov and Culver cant work money wise.
Dieng + Cov for Russell + GR3 works
Wiggs for Dlo + GR3 works
Teague+ Dieng+ culver for Dlo, chriss, and smailagic works
But in all those scenarios, wed have to throw in some picks.
I don't agree with the bolded, but if that was the case, then you politely end the conversation and let the Warriors try to find a better trade partner or just let them eat that luxury tax bill and a misfit roster.
