I would trade Rubio for the Kings pick. I have seen mocks where Mudiay drops to 6th.

All this trade Rubio stuff is getting out of hand. Rubio for Mudiay? No way. We know what we have with Rubio. He's a good to great: passer, floor general, defender and rebounder. You don't throw that away for an unknown at this time in the teams development. Rubio, Lavine, Wiggins, Bazz, Dieng, Towns/Okafor, Bennett, Payne is a lot of young talent granted the last 2 listed are big question marks.

Rubio is just the type of floor general PG we need to run the offense with that team and hopefully he can improve his offense, which to be fair he was looking to attack the paint more and shooting a little better at the beginning of last season before his injury.

I would trade Rubio for TheSP's draft rights.

Rubio is still a sub 37% shooter after 4 seasons. He is who he is. Like you said in your first graph, "We know what we have with Rubio."

A gifted passer. A good to very good defender. A historically awful finisher and shooter. Would most teams trade that (and $54M over 4 years) for a guy with more promise whose ceiling could potentially be higher? They'd have to deal with a ton of PR flak from the fanbase if nothing else.

The injury history and therefore legit worries about that are why I would consider a deal. I think both teams may need to get something back in the deal the Wolves maybe Collison and the Kings something back with some potential.

To me at this point unless you get a terrific deal you keep Rubio because when healthy he is a terrific PG to play with young players to help them get better because he passes, competes and plays defense. That contract ain't gonna look too bad in a year if he is reasonably healthy. I'd keep him another year because he will have value then too. I don't think he can get you a high enough pick to make it worth dealing him now.

I do think there is something to the idea that Flip isn't sold on Rubio and the conversation we have about his negatives I'm sure Flip considers those also. The other thing is that Rubio has a couple traits that Flip Loves and that's Rubio's passion for the game competing hard and he is a leader PG and that is what Flip wants from his PG being a coach on the floor. Also Rubio has said he is really commited to being here and all that so that's something Flip has wanted also. I guess what I mean is Rubio might be valued a bit more by Flip than would seem on the surface. I wouldn't be totally shocked if he made a deal of the return was really good but I don't expect that to happen but I suppose you never know what teams will decide to do.

Healthy... I agree that Rubio's contract isn't terrible because of (1) rising salary cap (2) Wolves have plenty of young guys on "cheaper" deals.

I was comparing it specifically with how much a team would have to pay that rookie (Mudiay). Plus, they'd have the inside track on keeping him for 7+ years.

If Ricky has another injury riddled year his value is gone the same as Pek's is now gone. I think if you can get a high pick and land a Mudiay or even this Cameron Payne guy who's been jumping up some boards you do it. People talk about the risk involved, but Ricky simply hasn't been playing very much for this team in recent years so it's hard to judge how much you are really losing. If you are losing a really good player who can only play 40-60 games a year then I'll take the extra cap space and the young PG because you can't build a team on guys who can't stay on the court. It affects the team chemistry and play style too much throughout the year to be consistent enough to make the playoffs. Ideally the Knicks take Mudiay or Porzingas and are willing to trade that guy after the draft for Ricky and maybe another piece to give them a veteran PG who plays defense next to Melo.
