Bird wasn't exactly super tactful about the way he moved on from Vogel but he seemed straightforward and made his decision quickly.

The bottom line for Bird is he has wanted to reshape the roster go small score points etc. if he didn't feel Vogel and his staff were achieving what he wanted then it's fair to move on and that's what he is doing. Does that mean it's the right thing for him to do? Idk Will another guy have more ultimate success? Idk like Q has said it's somewhat up to GM Bird to get the job done on his end. It will be interesting to see who he pegs as his next coach.

I kind of think Bird is using the coach as a scapegoat, when the real problem was himself. Paul George is the only super talent they have and he's been injured a lot in the last 3 years. Was it Bird who traded away Kawhi?

Yeah, wasn't it Bird that suggested Paul George would be playing PF this season before things got started? I think George was sort of like, "What's you talkin' about Willis!?".

I think Bird's instincts to go smaller and faster follows the trend we've been seeing lately. Heck, even Cleveland is doing it now - remember how Mozgov was a major part of their rotation last season? Now he has practically disappeared.

But...you still need the talent. The reason teams go small is because it just so happens their best players are wings and guards. So when they come up with their best 5-man lineup, it usually ends up being one big and four wings/guards. I'm not sure how that works for Indiana.

I completely agree with everything you say about this situation in all of your posts. Like you said it's not just a trend because it's what works it's partly because the players that are on the floor are the best players. Mozgov last year was a terrific player but came to camp out of shape has t been healthy and with the Cavs healthy they have lots of options. Richard Jefferson Seems to be a major upgrade for them this year over the old guys they had last year that were options at wings.

I am really happy with Thibs but I would have really liked Joerger. Memphis is looking at Vogal as a replacement. The coaching carousel in the NBA is so weird.

Wow, Joerger canned even though he got Memphis in playoffs with a crippled roster. Lots of good coaches getting fired in past two years: Joerger, Vogel, Hornacek, Blatt and Thibs.

I would not have been upset with Joerger in Minnesota, but given a choice, I pick Thibs every single time. We got the right guy to make the most of what this team can become.

Dammit. Joerger stays in the Western Conference and now probably Vogel will fill one of the other vacancies in the West too. I'm not suggesting that Joerger can turn things around by himself, but look at what he squeezed out of that Memphis roster this year.

Can someone please hire Byron Scott, Kurt Rambis, or Randy Wittman for a Western Conference coaching opening?
