Amen to that q. It makes love's once a year return to the target center that much more special. Il have that date circled on my calendar for sure. A must watch game.

I agree. Love will probably have a 50-50 game in his first game back at Target Center just to stick it to Glen.

lipoli390 wrote:Great post, Drew. I agree with you completely. That's why I continue to have misgivings about a Wiggins deal even though I see that as the best reported deal purportedly on the table. I guess I've taken a leap of faith that Wiggins handle and ability to create his own shot in the half-court offense will improve more than you typically see in players who are already close to 20 years old. That's what it will take for him to be the star many predict he'll be. Otherwise, he'll be an excellent defender, good jump shooter and excellent scorer in transition -- i.e., a very good NBA starter, but not a star.

In what you might consider another leap of faith, I still anticipate substantial improvement from Ricky as a shooter/scorer. He's just too skilled, smart and hard-working not to substantially improve his shot. He already showed marked improvement in his ability to finish at the rim after the all-star break last season. And he's been working with a new shooting coach all summer. I also think it's important to recognize the extent to which his injury and reconstructive knee surgery stifled the developement of his game.

In any event, as we sit here today, we can't help but have serious doubts about Rubio's development as a shooter/scorer and whether Wiggins has what it takes to become anything close to an NBA star.

So if Flip ends up doing the reported deal for the Wiggins package, Flip will have taken a leap of faith. It will be the home run swing that could hit the ball out of the park, but could instead produce nothing more than a solid single to left. I don't see Flip striking out with the Wiggins deal because I can't see Wiggins being less than a very good defensive player with some scoring ability in an NBA team's regular rotation.

In contrast, I see the reported Chicago deal for Gibson, Mirotic and McDermott as a sure double because I have no doubt that McDermott will be a high level scorer at the NBA level and we know that Gibson is among the better defensive PFs in the League. Mirotic has shown enough in Europe statistically to indicate that he'll at least be a decent NBA rotation player and I think he has the potential to be very good.

I'm in more of a gambling mode right now, so I'm leaning towards the Wiggins deal. But I'd be very happy with the Chicago deal -- maybe even relieved. And I sure hope Ricky's game takes the leap I'm anticipating.

Why is it a leap of faith that Wiggins handle and playmaking will improve yet u fully anticipate Rubios shooting to improve after three years in the legue?

I wonder if the Bulls get more aggressive with Rose showing well at the Team USA camp.

The only thing I complain about is the false hope thinking Chicago might step in. Love for Wiggins/Bennett is already agree upon. Yeah, I suppose there is a chance things could change, but all parties are taking steps to avoid any change:

And Drew, I watched Wiggins' highlights again after reading your summary, and I agree that there isn't enough there for me to pronounce him a good ball handler. I think Wiggins was fouled on a few good drives to the basket that didn't make the highlight video, so his handle is better than the video shows. But I have to agree that he didn't demonstrate very good distribution skills during SL. It's something he may have to work on, but I remain confident his upside is very, very high.

Good points, long. And summer league is notorious for discouraging passing since these guys generally haven't played together and haven't developed much chemistry, even more reason not to draw many strong conclusions regarding playmaking. And it's clear Wiggins has some really impressive athleticism, and even when his shot looks a little awkward, he does have a seem to have a knack for getting shots to go down (at least in a highlight reel!).

I understand everybody's impatience, and I get annoyed by "we should have done X" threads as much as the next guy, but I still think this is worth having a rational discussion about. Maybe the Wiggins deal is a signed and sealed and just waiting to be delivered. But until it happens, I think it's at least having a discussion about what to do with this whole situation. 1) Keep Love (which I'm still crazy enough to kind of want), 2) trade him for more proven players, or 3) trade him for more young, potential guys. The Bulls v. Cavs issue is just a way to get at that larger question, which is the biggest decision we've had to make since we traded KG.

This is a huge moment in the history of this team, which I've followed closely now for 15 years and some of you even longer than that. What direction are we going to take? You don't make a decision like that without kicking the tires a little.

For the record, I want us to do whatever's in the best interest of the team first, but in terms of Love, I'd be happy to see him stuck in the Western conference, where it will be much more difficult for him to go deep into the playoffs. He seems to think he deserves to be on a contender just because he's a good player. I'd kind of like to see him struggle and get "hurt in the heart" a little more to learn a lesson about taking responsibility.

I think you're probably right, Lip, and it will be really difficult for me to watch...I know the schedule isn't out yet, but I think I'm busy that night.

And the idea that he probably wants to stick it to Glen defines what I don't like about this guy. Glen has paid him millions of dollars and never called him out publicly for his immaturity, and yet Kevin has a chip on his shoulder because he thinks Glen has mistreated him. If I could have one wish in life, it might be this...Glen, please mistreat me like you mistreated poor Kevin!

Yeah, BABY!

We could be in store for something truly amazing. The chance to watch LaVine and Wiggins enter the league together and develop together, working to reach their potential which is through the roof for both of them. Rubio to help guide them, Pek and Deing providing a presence in the paint.

We know there will be struggles along the way as they learn the NBA game. But DAMN!!! Are we lucky, or what?

Oh, and just think what happens if Bennett turns it around and becomes a force at PF?!?

Personally, I don't think Bennett's coming to Minnesota. I think he's getting moved for Thad Young. And if we do get Bennett, we better hope he changes his mentality from SF to PF or else he's not going to do anything special in the league.

Just think of the haul those two players will bring when they too demand a trade!! Keep this up and Minnesota could have two terrible pro Basketball teams!!
