In part because I don't have much to say about a guy who remarkably has been traded FOUR times already, cleared waivers... and a guy who's reportedly struggled even in summer league.
Maybe, he's been technically traded four times, but the first two times were essentially draft day trade maneuvers and so Memphis wanted Jake LaRavia and the Wolves wanted Wendell Moore and he was part of those trades. The third and fourth trades was about Houston wanting to open up cap space. They signed VanVleet and with KPJ on roster too, Washington was expendable. This is a real trade as they traded away a guy they actually rostered and played one season, along with another one year guy in Usman Garuba. I think Atlanta was involved as an intermediary to reroute TyTy and Garuba to OKC and both Atlanta and OKC gained a second rounder for their trouble. TyTy has only played one year in the league for one team and I agree that his value around the league is not high right now, but I still think he has value for the Wolves in either a 15th roster spot or two way deal as we are one of the few NBA teams without a young point guard and with little draft capital. I think the Clippers, Toronto and Nets could potentially have some interest there (well at least their fanbases seem to be clamoring for him). He joined summer league late this year and so he didn't play but a few games for an organization that he probably had little or no practice time with so I don't put much stock in that. He had some decent numbers in the G League as well as in college which wasn't all that long ago, so he's still worth a look. I'm not sure if he'll hit or not, but the cost is a minimal deal and a roster spot and he can be waived anytime, so risk is very little.

OKC waived Usman Garuba so that’s another former 1st round pick by the Rockets that got waived. Let’s remember that Kennedy Chandler another guy people on this board really liked in the 2022 draft didn’t even make it through his rookie year before being dumped. He was a 2nd rounder but basically had a similar contract to what a late 1st rounder would get. Memphis will be paying him money this year and next. They really didn’t want that guy.

OKC and Houston are teams with lots of players lots of draft picks and are dumping guys that probably do still have some talent. Or maybe they don’t and it’s good those teams can move on so quickly. To me this illustrates how draft picks can have limited value to some extent especially when you have a bunch of them. Meanwhile the Wolves are a team with a deficit there. How bad is that really though? Wolves ended up landing Leonard miller this draft cycle and still managed to add another young player in the 2nd round. Next year they have their own first. I have always been a fan of getting draft picks and selecting guys because you never know but it feels like there are more paths and more talent to acquire than ever before.

Is TyTy the right guy to take a shot on? Idk but I’m always hoping that this team takes a shot on another young guy because…sometimes it actually works out. My guess is unless the Wolves end up with an opportunity to sign someone they REALLY like they are gonna try and sign someone that doesn’t have a guaranteed contract. They won’t be the only team offering that.

I like Garuba a lot, Monster. Great rebounder, defender and athlete with a non-stop motor. I don't think you can have enough guys like that on your roster, but obviously OkC doesn't agree.

Yeah he has some interesting stats and sounds intriguing but OKC just has a full roster. It’s kinda interesting that no team felt like these guys were worth trading even the rights to Henk Noel or something to acquire these guys for free/other than paying their salaries which is not a whole lot…or even claiming them on waivers. If I remember right Houston paid assets to dump these former first round picks.

Back to Garuba if the Wolves didn’t have suck a crowded frontcourt already I would say go for him actually but it seems like adding another perimeter player makes more sense. Still if a team is gonna take a flyer on someone do it on the best player you can get. You never know what can happen. Sometimes you can deal players from a position of strength.

Milwaukee Bucks signed TyTy to a two way contract. Nice signing for the Bucks.

He would have been a nice two-way signing for the Wolves. Alas…

Well, dang.

What do we think of bring Rondae back? He looks pretty great in FIBA play!

If only he could shoot the three! I think if there were injuries to the frontcourt necessitating bringing in someone to play the 4, he would be someone to seriously consider. I haven't watched any FIBA games, but his stats look pretty good, though, he's on a team where he's expected to carry the load and on the Wolves, he'd be a role player, if he gets in the rotation.

Another FIBA standout is KAT's teammate, Andres Feliz. I don't know much about him, but his stats look very good in FIBA play and last year in the Spanish league he shot the 3 ball at just over 40% over 34 games and in 18 additional games of EuroCup action, he shot 3s at over 50%. There may be concerns about his size and length as he's only 6"2 and his wingspan is only 6"2.5 He's also turned 26 this past July, so not sure if there's much upside, though its interesting that he was 22 during his freshman year of college. He played at Illinois for two seasons and his draft profile described him as a pesky defender, though at that time, there were concerns about his shooting (which seems to have vastly improved post-college). I'd consider signing him to an Exhibit-10 contract so we can have a look-see in preseason to see if his outside shooting translates against NBA players and if he can defend.

Not the last roster spot, but… The Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal with Javonte Cooke, agent Jerry Dianis told @hoopshype. Cook played for Minnesota’s G League affiliate last season, the Iowa Wolves.

Ronde basically figured out how to play as a role player and that wasn’t good enough for the league. The Wolves have Kyle Anderson that’s a better version of RHJ and signed Troy Brown JR who is sort of a combo forward as well. I actually really like RHJ and would not be opposed to signing him but I’m not sure there is a spot for him with the Wolves. I think he is an NBA player even with his flaws.

Andres Feliz is interesting. I like you are throwing out some other options in this thread. I will point out that his 3 point shooting isn’t very high volume at that level. Still when he shoots the ball he is pretty efficient so that something. I don’t think a guy that’s playing in an international league is going to do an exhibit 10 deal and might not even be able to depending on his contract with his current club.

With an actual roster spot available you would think the Wolves would be able to get someone reasonably interesting to sign here to compete for that roster spot. We should see something fairly soon.
