lst can you shed any more light on what GLen said? did he flat out say to quit screaming or to be nice to the players? What meeting to be a fly on the wall at, Thibs being told by one of the most incompetent owners in the NBA would be hilarious to see, not that Glen is wrong just that it is a interesting dynamic when you compare the success between the two

No, I think it does matter, because what you edited out highlights a key difference in how some fans perceive the role of coaching, and I see that as a good talker for this board. Your pre-edited post said that the role of a coach is to lay out a game plan and then it's up to the players to execute. I agree that is a role for a coach, and I think Thibs' technical knowledge puts him in the upper echelon in this criterion, but I don't see game plan preparation as the most important role of a coach. My personal experience (both as a player and as a coach) tells me that the most important role of a coach is finding a way to get the very most out of a player, and the psychological side has always seemed more important to me in achieving this goal than the x's and o's. That's why some guys who are savants in the technical side of basketball (or any sport for that matter) will never be successful as head coaches.

I think Thibs has the ability to be successful in both the technical and psychological parts of coaching...he is a good guy who seems to like both basketball and people. But I think he was a flop at getting the most out of his players the first 26 games of the season, and having watched him closely in 5-6 games at TC, I concluded his demeanor and method of interacting with his players had a substantial role in how much worse our young guys were playing compared to the end of last season. A few of us here have noticed some hints of behavior change in the last week that may or may not be accurate, and it's logical to correlate those changes with the recent success. Doesn't make my hypothesis correct, but at least makes it an interesting theory.

I can't because I wasn't there, but I assume that the conversation was at a more sophisticated level than those two options. A minority owner told me Monday that the ownership group was quite dissatisfied with Thibs and his style and had much higher expectations for this team (don't we all?), and that there had been some recent frank conversations. But I don't know the content. It's easy to make fun of Glen because of the ineptness of this franchise and his role in some of the bad decisions. But let's not lose sight of the fact that he is a poor kid who developed a business that made him a billionaire, and he didn't get there without knowing how to motivate people. Anyone who knows Glen knows he can be a tough son-of-a-bitch when he needs to be, but also understands the vital importance of positive reinforcement in getting the most out of subordinates.

We can disagree on the reasons for the Wolves' recent turnaround, but there certainly seems to be a lot of correlation between Thibs' recent positive demeanor and the recent good play. But I'm open to the suggestion of the other side too...that the light bulb just turned on a week ago for the entire team, and Thibs' new attitude is merely because they are winning. As Q said, it's a chicken and egg thing, and there may be a little of both going on here.

hopefully they met in the middle, I hope they weren't considering firing him and I hope he took what ownership said to heart. He really does look happier and his new style will hopefully prevent him from having a damn heart attack. They can meet halfway and we can continue arguing about why we're WINNING!

I actually don't think it's an argument about why we're winning. It's the massive improvement defensively that's turned us around a bit, though there's still plenty of work to be done. That's been the main difference in this team now compared to the beginning of the season. I doubt anyone would refute that.

The Wolves just can't afford to lose Friday. The Kings have also won three of their last four with two wins over the Grizzlies and one over the Jazz. We can't expect that to be an easy game and they've already beat us once this year. Keep the good times rollin'.

I would say the more reasonable explanation to the inconstant season is a young core learning to play and play together. And playin under their 3rd coach in 3 years and 4 in four years for a couple of the guys.

And just maybe the expectations going into the year were unrealistic. I would say that's more realistic then Tibs making drastic changes. I for one found it absurd to be callin for Tibs head after a month like a couple of the more respected posters on this board were calling for.

Everyone wants to use last years month and a half as a barometer for expectations this year, I was guilty of that as well. But to call for a coaches head with the track record of Tibs' based on that is crazy. And for the record that's what of couple of people on this board well doing. Talking about a buy out! Lol.

That was a good win. The defense in general was terrific and t was against an unconventional opponent so in some ways it was really impressive espcially how they contested the 3 point shot.

I love this team. Everyone that played tonight had an impact that was positive. Rubio is starting to look like Rubio. The Wolves turned it over too much but a bunch of them were on plays to move the ball making a play for another player. If they can get some of those plays down which I think they can it's gonna be fun folks.

Watching the game I thought to myself a few times "This team looks and plays like at least a good NBA team." They countered runs that most teams will make. They got sole buckets got some stops made hustle plays. I'm not sure what else you can ask for at this point. I thought it was their best game of the season.

There was a lot of good stuff in this game but I saw the Hawks had zero fast break points. That's amazing and a massive turnaround from what we have been seeing from this team until recently.

I'll start it up again. I had been so depressed about the start I didn't feel the 2 + 1 would have been much fun to read.
