I haven't read this thread in its entirety yet.
For now I'm just gonna say, I hope you savored that Game 3 win as much as I did.
This team is back to having to try to build a winner around Towns in spite of Wiggins. I'm not sure how attractive this job will be once Thibs is gone.

People blame Kat and Wiggins (to a extent I did) and maybe just maybe this bonds the team together and they say fuck it and we get stud Wiggins and they surprise us this year.
Why so glum? Jimmy's trade request is fantastic news! I haven't seen so many angry Wolves fans and the Fire Thibs tweets are coming in droves. Its a beautiful sight!!!. Thibs days are numbered now and its just a matter of when Glen pulls the plug.

You do realize firing Thibs now means no respectable coach/GM even interview for these new jobs with the season starting up on Monday? What respectable people will want to go to an organization that fired it's coach after a 16 win improvement, have to immediately trade a franchise player for maybe 50-75 cents on the dollar and get guys ready to play because everything starts up on Monday for another lottery bound rebuilding year? They aren't gonna touch this team with a 10 ft pole under those circumstances. So now you have to hire third and fourth tier guys looking for a shot anywhere and they're gonna be here for probably 3 years minimum. That sounds even more disastrous to me than letting Thibs trade Jimmy and let a new coach and GM clean up the mess next summer. 4 days to hire a top coach and GM. Not happening and it sets us back 3 years for the front office and coach we need to get to move forward positively with this franchise.
The point of point 6 is if you want Thibs to make a good trade he needs some backing that trading away a franchise player kisses the 2nd round playoff requirement goodbye and he has a legitimate shot to keep his job if they show improvement in the right spots. If you don't give him that he's gonna make a deal to benefit his last year here to try to save his job. It's alway been ridiculous of people on here expecting Thibs to hang himself for the good of a franchise he won't be working for anymore. If you want him to make the right move you need to give him some wiggle room on performance so he isn't firing himself with this trade and has a chance to keep his job. That shouldn't be difficult to comprehend and frankly not getting that backing might just lead to him saying fuck it and not make any trades because he's as good as gone without Jimmy.
So you can either blow it up tomorrow and give the new C team front office 3-4 days to get everything figured out and squared away for the next NBA season (likely going to be fucked up by said team due to the lack of preparation they will have) or you throw Thibs some rope so he can have a chance to make the right deal and potentially save his job with his coaching without making him hang himself and respectable people don't just write you off as a joke for firing your most successful coach/GM in well over a decade. I wonder which one is the better option.

Khan, respect is overrated. Celebrate, the big bad ogre will soon be gone!

Jimmy is a great player (though a major dick) but he's at least 10 years older (in Thibs years) than KAT and Wigs and he's at best a bandaid that improves the present at the expense of the future. So whoopdee doo we made the playoffs and got thrashed and lost out on a lottery pick. An undesirable geographic location and small market team like Minny's only chance for success is organic growth. Build through the draft with young players is the way to go. Shortcuts won't work for us. It was a huge mistake for Glen to give Thib's the GM job.

If I threw Thibs a rope it wouldn't be for the purpose of saving his job.
Coaching: Flip Saunders or Ryan Saunders > Fat Nasty Ogre
GM: Flip > Milt > McFail > Kahn or Ogre (tough call)

Comparing Thibs and Khan as equals in terms of GM'ing is so ridiculous that it couldn't have been done with any seriousness involved.

The idea that we fire Thins right now creates a Sam Mitchell having to take over for a passed away Flip type situation where you have very little preparation and some questions sourrpunding the franchise. On top of that who are you going to get? The best coaches that are available are either guys that haven't been NBA coaches yet (risky when you don't even know what the total roster is like and you might not even have a GM) or they are basically Thibs type guys Clifford SVG JVG. Are we dumping Thibs so we can hire just anyone? We should take some time to figure things out. A few months ago it didn't seem like the Bucks were going to end up with any that was that great. They ended up with Budenholzer who has a pretty good track record of success and developing players. I get it some people just think Thibs is the wrong guy for the job and want him absolutely gone. That's a fair position but I just don't see solid path for a coach in this situation that set up that coach and the team to succeed. I think Glen can communicate to Thibs that if he and Layden do a solid job with this trade and some of his offseason moves actually work out like KBD Okogie or Nunnally even if they miss the playoffs this year that doesn't mean Thibs and Layden are gonzo. Even without Butler this team is one built by Thibs and Layden. Why not let them have a whirl at it at least a few more months. Thibs is likely to get more out of guys like Deng and Rose than whoever comes in which might actually be helpful. Those guys aren't the priority but they could have value to the outside this season and in Deng's case he could have some positive influence on younger players.

Its so ridiculous that its True. I didn't think I could like a GM less than Khan, but Thibs has seriously put that in question. Kahn made stupid moves notably Flynn and Wes but he did make one good trade and so we got Ricky for Foye and change. But we were already bad when Kahn took over, so he couldn't ruin much. We had the best young roster in the NBA plus a vast amount of capspace when Ogre took over and Ogre has made a mess of things and I honestly can't say I liked any of Ogre's personnel moves. So maybe it is Kahn > Ogre. Both Kahn and Ogre are arrogant idiots, so maybe they have a future in politics.

We have finally reached peak Wolves!
I'm surprised by it just from the fact that literally nobody talked to each other at all this summer between Towns, Jimmy, Thibs et al and all of a sudden the meeting and trade demand comes in just the last 2 days. What changed from the end of the year to now to escalate the situation to this level?
This organization is so dysfunctional and has been for years. Decades actually. The culture of the team has always been really bad. Can anybody think of a time when our owner, front office, and players acted like professionals? It's just so disappointing.
Whatever happened to just talking to someone like an adult? Why can't anybody in this organization do that?
Why anyone (including Glen Taylor) thought Thibodeau could be trusted as PBO given his personality, track record with the Bulls front office and absence of any experience in an NBA front office or as head of any organization is beyond me. But actually, the only one who even trusted him in that role is Glen Taylor (and a number of Wolves fans). Thibodeau and David Kahn have to be two of the dumbest front office hires in modern NBA sports history.
You nail a huge reason why the Wolves are perpetually shitty to mediocre... Glen Taylor.
The Thibs deal doesn't look great right now. At all. But revisionist history aside, it was largely considered a good get at the time. Still doesn't make it ok now. It looks like a dumb move to give him both roles.
But it's not as bad as David Kahn... arguably the worst NBA GM in the past 25 years. And that's a very telling statement.
