Naz or Randle. Can't have both.
Re: Naz or Randle. Can't have both.
Well, put NAW in my "must keep" list if indeed we can re-sign him without restrictions!
Re: Naz or Randle. Can't have both.
I thought it was noteworthy that DDV got more 4th quarter run than NAW against the Mavs. But I see now that NAW is questionable tonight with an illness, so maybe he was already feeling under the weather two nights ago...
RealGM shows full Bird Rights for NAW. I am pretty sure that is correct.

Re: Naz or Randle. Can't have both.
Considering we haven't heard a peep from Reid despite not really getting more run in a contract year with Towns gone... I think the Wolves are keenly aware what it's going to cost to keep him, NAW and Randle.
Heck, they might have already "agreed" to a deal.

Don't forget Rudy took a haircut for next season. I have little doubt the Wolves created pathways to keep these guys.60WinTim wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 7:18 amThe thing is... "Financial flexibility" for the Wolves simply means "shedding salary", since maintaining salaries over 200 mil is not possible. NAZ and NAW were goners if KAT was still here. But even with the KAT trade, NAZ and NAW are still likely goners, although the Wolves now have the financial ability to keep one of Randle, NAZ and NAW (plus they retain the services of DDV). Of course, Randle could force their hand by picking up his option. But I think it far more likely that they work out an extension.Phenom wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 12:05 amI can only imagine the narratives if that comes to pass. Trade Karl for more financial flexibility but let Naz AND NAW walk.60WinTim wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 7:27 pm
Agreed.
My gut tells me the Wolves will work out a reasonable extension for Randle, but will have no room to sign NAZ or NAW. This opens the door for guys like Miller, Minott and/or Garza to find roles on next year's team to fill NAZ's minutes. And Dilly, Shannon and/or Clark will find roles to fill NAW's minutes, not to mention a potential increase in DDV's minutes.
Doogie had never really had a pulse on future contact numbers. Jaden averages just over 26 million per year. Is significantly more 30 million per? Is that realistic in the current FA climate where larger dollar deals are mostly reserved for players staying put?
Spotrac is projecting 2 true cap space teams, Brooklyn and Washington. Only Brooklyn could offer Naz a significant raise from what Jaden makes. I wouldn't start romanticizing your favorite Naz Reid memories quite yet.

Re: Naz or Randle. Can't have both.
Here's the thing. I don't think long term this Randle/Rudy/Ant thing works out. Maybe if Jaden keeps firing and we get Dilly firing in the starting lineup? Maybe, I still don't see it.
The starting lineup is just so clogged and both Ant and Randle like to ISO too much. You just can't have both guys wanting the ball and ISO. I see Randle as the odd man out. Interesting I heard that the Heat may be interested in Randle. Maybe a three team deal where Randle goes to Miami, player X comes here and Butler goes to team Z. With all the restrictions though, it's pretty tough to come up with trade ideas that would work and teams have interest in doing.

Re: Naz or Randle. Can't have both.
To me Randle does seem like a guy that would fit in Miami. Maybe even more with Butler wanting out. I assume Miami isn't looking to hit a reset button. I don't know what the Wolves would get back in that tyoe of deal but I do think Randle has enough value there will he teams wanting him (not desperately or anything but feel like he can help their team) either at the deadline or in the off-season. Like you said there are various restrictions which could keep a deal from happening but it's not impossible. If Butler is dealt some salalries are gonna be moving around so...that could help the Wolves out. We will see if the Wolves can figure something out the next few weeks. If not it will not be surprising to see Connelly make a move.Wolvesfan21 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 11:26 am Here's the thing. I don't think long term this Randle/Rudy/Ant thing works out. I posted a few Randle trade proposals earlier in this thread. My latest favorite version involves Miami, Toronto, Golden State and Minnesota.Monster wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 4:51 pmTo me Randle does seem like a guy that would fit in Miami. - Miami sends out Butler, and receives Randle and Boucher (an expiring contract). They seem ready to move on from Butler. Their interest in Randle has been mentioned before. And it helps out their cap situation.
- Toronto sends out Olynyk and Boucher, and receives Wiggins and Kuminga. Toronto gets a Canadian favorite, and up-and-coming Kuminga, who is a restricted FA next year. They make out pretty good in this deal, so will likely need to send out a protected draft pick(s) to Golden State.
- Golden State send out Wiggins, Payton, SloMo and Kuminga, and receives Butler. They have been rumored as a Butler destination for awhile, to pair a star with Curry for his swan song. They have to give up a lot salary to get him. Kuminga is out for a few weeks with a sprained ankle, which might make them itchy to do something...
- Minnesota sends out Randle and receives Olynyk, SloMo and Payton. They move off of Randle and bring back a key-chemistry guy in SloMo. Olynyk adds depth to our frontcourt that could be viewed as a KAT-lite (very lite). And Payton adds some vet PG depth. It also helps with our cap next year since Payton is on an expiring contract.
Re: Naz or Randle. Can't have both.
Tim, Creative deal for sure, although not sure how much it helps spacing if SloMo and Payton are in the rotation. They are worse shooters than Randle! Good locker room guys though. Olynyk is certainly a decent pick and pop big.60WinTim wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 7:47 pmI posted a few Randle trade proposals earlier in this thread. I do think Miami is a credible landing spot for Randle since Jimmy is going to be moved eventually and they need another scorer. And if any team can maximize Randle's game and fit, it's a Spoelstra-coached team. I could easily see them assimilating him better than the Wolves, that's for sure.
Re: Naz or Randle. Can't have both.
I'm skeptical the Wolves actually want to move Julius but jumping into a Jimmy Butler deal as a 3rd team where Julius goes to Miami could be there if they want it.

Re: Naz or Randle. Can't have both.
Randle to Miami
Jimmy to god knows who
The problem is that any Randle trade involving Jimmy kinda guarantees we're gonna take on a lot of flotsam which negates the "flexibility" Connelly sold everyone on.
If Jimmy only wants to go to Phoenix, then neither team needs to involve us.
