it hard caps us at the first apron if we go that route though.

What would be the goal in a return for him? A trade exemption that will never get used? A 2027 2nd rounder? what would the player even be if we assume Edwards/McDaniels/Reid/eventually Beringer are locked into their spots?
Ayo's trade value has to be higher than that
I think Ayo is going to be offered more than we think from some team around the league... which would put him in the sign-and-trade camp as suggested.
The cap space teams don't seem to be viable options for Ayo so any team offering more will need to have value for the Wolves to get them to agree to a sign and trade.

Well how do we feel about TJ at point? Looks like Finch saw it work at a high level for an extremely small amount of time and now SI has an article about it. Is it a bandaid that pushes the can a bit further down the road? Could he actually be as good at it as he looked against Denver for a few games? It sure would make roster balancing a lot easier….

Finch did an hour on Paul Allen this morning. He did say that we need a point guard to get Ant to his best spots. He did say TJ might be one solution internally that could put the ball in TJ's hands and have Ant off ball. Finch mentioned that some of the things Ant did learn this year while playing with the ball, will pay dividend in future seasons. Kind of similar how he was a terrible clutch player for years, before having it click this year.

Interesting.

It's one thing for a player like TJ (or Ant for that matter) to be able to put the ball on the floor and then find people based on breaking into the paint and collapsing the defense. That's different than an "organizer" that gets everyone to their spots, knows who needs to be fed the ball, knows how to set everything up. Mike Conley is the embodiment of floor organizer.

I don't think we need the organizing-type on the floor 100% of the time - it might even be a really good backup behind Ayo. But we can't have a bunch of secondary ball handlers like Ant, Ayo, and TJ play-act as PGs 100% of the time either.

I like that it’s an option…but they went into this season with 0 plan and Donte wasn’t the long term solution….TJ had like 4 assists in two rounds of playoff series and while it’s not impossible that his ball iq and full seasoning college career prepared him to be an organizer I think it’s a tough sell to sorta wing it again and see if someone whose never done it can just do it.

TJ did look like a good creator of his own shot and absolutely deserves like 25 min a game if his D can look like it did in the post season…but a mix of guard/wing combo self creators on offense didn’t really work great for us.

I don’t think any of the final four NBA contenders have a true organizer type starting PG or even a good one off the bench. Maybe Fox, although I don’t think so. Certainly not Brunson. I see no reason why the Wolves can’t flourish with Ayo as our starting PG. But I still think we need a high quality PG off the bench and I don’t think we have that caliber guy on the roster right now. I’m not confident that TJ can be that guy. It’s not that I expect him to be an organizer type PG, but I’m just not sure he’s a good enough facilitator or ballhandler to be our starting PG or our main PG backup to Ayo. In my view, this organization has to stop focusing on position and focus in instead on talent and fit. We need more talent and we need to replace Randle because he’s not a reliable defender and is a poor fit with Ant. And yes, we need another PG as a starter or backup to Ayo in my view, but it doesn’t have to be a pure PG/organizer type.

Whatever you think they do have organizers of the offense.

OKC has SGA
Cleveland had Garland and now Harden
Knicks seemingly stumbled upon Towns being that
Spurs have Castle and Fox.

our best organizer is sadly Randle and that's not gonna cut it.

In Ayo's limited time here, he averaged 3.5 assists.

They need a much better facilitator than what they have. Wolves don't have a dependable guy other than a stretch here and there.

100%!!

And whoever this next PG is, he better damn well be able to throw a lob pass. We need this to unleash Joan, not to mention some possible Rocco minutes, and maybe it will do some good for Rudy.

Wolves needs or ways to improve in no particular order.

-More 3 point shooting
-More shot creation
-Playmaking whether its organizing or actually creating for others.

IMO if you can find more shooting along with at least one more guy that can get buckets maybe you can go without a typical PG. I think Lip is right they should focus on talent but I think it would be a mistake to not look for at least one legit PG type that is actually a PG. A Tyus Jones would probably work although he is similar to Conley. I think it would be be nice to add someone that really breaks down a defense and gets some people buckets. It's been a while since the Wolves had a guy like that.

Also, can Connelly find a rotation guy for cheap?

Champagnie has a $3 mil team option next year.

McBride is making $3-$4 mil a year

Shamet is on a vet min

OKC has Ajay Mitchell making $3 mil a year.
