Week 3 - Buc @ Vikings
Can't believe we are in week 3. Will Sam play? Can we win with Kenuum if needed?
I was impressed with Casey in the preseason. I think if he builds some chemistry with Diggs and Thelin he can make strides.

Keenum is not terrible, but he's not Sam either. The defense is going to have come up huge and the O-line is going to have to open holes for Cook... and it would probably help if they stopped running the ball out on kickoffs deep into the endzone and just take the ball on the 25.
Re: Week 3 - Buc @ Vikings
One podcast made a good point about Keenum being more mobile than Bradford and if they had game planned him to start from the beginning they may have used some plays to get him moving a bit more. Zimmer mentioned that a few times he was too deep in his drop which they were not pass protecting for which ai think I remember that being an issue a couple times. All things considered I don't think he was that bad either. If they prepare with him as the guy I think he can be good enough to give them a chance.
How good is Tampa? I really have no idea. I assume they don't suck but beyond that...shrug.

I heard a rumor that the QB who was 17th in passer rating and 23rd in Total QBR in 2016 (keenum is 23rd and 30th) is sitting home waiting for a minimum contract.

As a football player I personally don't think that Kap is the answer. He doesn't fit the scheme and how good (or bad) he is can very well be up for debate like a lot of guys that aren't clear starters. I think some team should have probably rolled the dice on him but I wasn't in favor of him with the Vikings behind a very different QB in Bradford. I also probably value Keenum more than a lot of people though.

What did he walk away from with 49ers? Would he accept vet minimum?
Tom Brady wants him in the league he should be in the league playing for somebody on the Patriots schedule so they can crush destroy him. Seriously though I thinh they are more to this story. I remember hearing he was not a good teammate and that is a huge problem and then add in that defenses know what he can do and how to take it away. He basically is not worth the headache for most teams. His best fit was backing up Seahawks and when they passed that says plenty to me and likely the rest of the league.

Easton is about to get his lunch eaten by McCoy. It's gonna be hard to run the ball inside. Hopefully we can get some semblance of a passing game going otherwise we might be in trouble. Also a big week for Rhodes because Evans will destroy anyone else we put on him. This will be a solid win if we can pick it up.

That was a dumb decision. Dumbest since AK walked away from the Wolves. If his agent is the one responsible, then maybe no one hires that guy anymore. But if that was all Kaep, then it was really stupid.
....and if defenses know what they can do to "take it away", why aren't his stats worse? So the league doesn't know what do to with Keenum and he's just really bad?

I didn't do an exhaustive search but it doesn't look like that money was guaranteed. So if he didn't opt out he would have been released and Lynch said that's what they would have done and told Kap they were going in another direction. Basically it seems he wasn't going to see any of that money either way.

Saw this. I am not sure he got more money last year or just wanted more money last year.
As part of the deal's reconfiguration, Kaepernick traded $14.5 million in injury guarantees during the 2017 season for the opportunity to opt out of the deal early. His decision saves the Niners his $14.5 million base salary in 2017 though he will still count nearly $2.5 million in dead money for the remainder of his signing bonus proration.
