Morey in some heat

This whole thing has just been crazy to see develop over the course of today. Politicians are even weighing in on this one. One tweet and all of a sudden a multi-billion dollar market is trying to strong arm the NBA or withdraw business from the league.

NBA's Response: https://twitter.com/yiqinfu/status/1181024883272114180?s=20

Net's Owner Response: https://www.facebook.com/100001583307192/posts/2653378931391524?sfns=mo

Personally I think it's insane that this is going down and the NBA would put up with it on any level. They make tons of money across the world. I would just blacklist China from all NBA games, tours, etc. This kind of a response over a tweet should not be tolerated. But of course because there are more billions to be made than the billions they already make so...

I think there is a lot of research I would have to do before really weighing in on this. I will say the difference culturally between these 2 nations is pretty vast.

My uninformed take is that if the NBA Houston Morey and other entities on the US side of this keep a low profile I'd guess it blows over for the most part but there will be some damage to the Rockets financially. Fans will get over it...people wanting to make money will get over it and others will have more pressing this to deal with than Morey's Ill-fated tweet.

You can stand for freedom of expression and dissent without denouncing the history of China as an amazing and important nation. Even if this is a separatist movement by the people of Hong Kong China is wrong about what they are doing. The NBA is wrong for waffling in their support of Morey and the pandering they are doing solely for economic opportunity.

Funny that guys like Lebron, Kerr, and Pop aren't up on their soap boxes backing Morey. They are always quick to denounce any social injustice, but when it hits them in the pocket book it suddenly is not important enough.

I agree 100% and don't forget to add Silver. You can't move the All Star Game because of a bathroom law, then support games in a country that has passed an even more heinous extradition law.

Something I wasn't aware of before today was that Kerr's father was gunned down while the president of The university of Beruit.

I'm not a fan of lumping people together Even though I do it too much. People have different viewpoints on issues.

Yao Ming got upset with Morey's comments and he likely has a personal relationship with him. I think picking your battles is wise. I'm not sure what comments from LeBron would do except fan the flames...or make more like driving a propane truck into them. At some point there might be a time to speak out but this seems like a tricky situation.

In one week the NBA picks China's Communist government over the democratic people of Hong Kong, and now the Blazers have announced they have severed their relationship with an company that supplies materiels to the Isreal Defense Force, Isreal being the only democracy in the middle east. Banner week for the league.

In a world in which the Timberwolves can do little to nothing right, they've managed to not step on a rake so far this week... though they have a couple days left.

Oh, and the NBA's issued two public statements, one for us, the other for China with not insignificant changes.
