Wolves Reality Check

Post by Lipoli390 »

The Wolves are one game above .500 with 23 games left to play. All of their opponents except perhaps two or three are decent teams and 14 of the Wolves remaining 23 games are on the road. Note the Wolves have been a terrible road team this season. Yes, KAT will be back. But we don't know when he'll be back. It will take him time to get back into game shape and develop a rhythm. He'll be playing with a new PG he's never played with before. Oh, and in the 20+ games he played with Rudy Gobert, the Wolves were under .500.

I went through the schedule and counted only nine games I think the Wolves have a good chance of winning. I counted another five I could see them winning if they're on. If we're realistic, the best we can reasonably expect from the Wolves over these final 23 games will be 11-12. If they do that, they'll finish right at .500. That will probably mean a 9th or 10th place finish and a play-in opportunity. But I could easily see this team going 8-15.

Wolves have the fewest remaining games in the league which means a less crammed schedule to finish and now have the 11th toughest schedule remaining. They haven't fallen apart so far and I don't suspect they will. We really could use Kat back with his normal shooting efficiency. I'm excited to see them be put to the test.

It's not the first time this season the opposing team has dominated in the paint against Gobert. One example was Miami and I can't even remember the name of the Miami player who was dominating him. In fairness to Rudy, if the rest of your team doesn't make it really difficult to penetrate into the paint, a player of Rudy's caliber (he's not Hakeem, Embiid or Duncan), can only do so much. Tonight Rudy did very little, but there wasn't a lot more he could have done. The problem tonight was DLO's terrible perimeter defense that allowed easy penetration. Oh wait, DLO's gone. Never mind.

You're right that this team hasn't fallen apart so far. But they might yet fall apart. I'm assuming they'll continue to be the team they've been, but they'll be playing tougher competition and more road games. They'll also have better Western Conference teams to compete against in the Mavs, Suns and Lakers. So I'm predicting they'll win 9 or 10 of their remaining 23 games, in which case they'll finish one or two games under .500 - a terrible indictment of Tim Connelly and his front office cohorts.

Orlando Robinson, undrafted rookie out of NCAA powerhouse Fresno State. He did displace Dewayne Dedmon from Miami's rotation though so that must mean something. :)
